Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
It is a good photo, it gives a good sense of scale.
I still wish there was a red centre line on the flight deck.

These ships will raise the RN, in my opinion, to the second most powerful navy in the world. Now if only they can stick to 13 T26 and throw in an order for an LHD, I will really celebrate. Looking forward to see her in company with her escorts and still hoping to visit Portsmouth one day to see her in person.

The rear island looks like it has a rectangular framework that could used to fit a landing display board.
Are the various safety barriers on the islands permanent? If so they look a bit of an after thought in terms of styling.

Oh good grief you wait 8 years to see her sail, and they put the sailing back to the time you've booked your holiday. I would have serious words with the ACA about that to ensure she goes out after you get back.cockneyjock1974 wrote:Thanks man, im off to Croatia for the next 2 weeks, I hope that she doesn't sail before I get back.Thorvicson wrote:Not easy to tell CJ a tree in the background sort of hides PWLZ aft mast to some extentcockneyjock1974 wrote:Great pic looks like my theory on Artisan was wrong.
We cant have that we've been waiting years for your photo commentary for the sailing since the first blocks floated up the Forth
Yes I think your right about the Q now you can zoom in on that linked photo as I could only see on Twitter last night. you can see the aft mast is still awaiting Artisan on PWLS

Is QE not having the "R08" pennant painted on an island?

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
As it increasingly looks like she'll be out on what appear to be fairly extensive trials in the next couple of weeks are we to expect a tanker to dock alongside shortly to 'fill her up'? Presumably for the engine tests, brake blade running she's been supplied with fuel oil by road tanker. Does Rosyth still have a bulk fuel capability since the closure and demolition of the tanks? Has there been a large amount of road tankers going in and out to fuel her?
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
could anybody tell me the best place to head for (sat nav ) destination to view the sailing ,would be traveling from Lancashire so don't know best place to view . do hope can get a bit of notice to get up there hope its the 25 th june ish. thankyou folks
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
While all systems have to be tested during builders trials the 1st RAS via ship may come in the RN OT&E phase bunkering for the bulk fuel I would expect a fuel bunkering barge if no tanks and pipeline is in placeTimmymagic wrote:As it increasingly looks like she'll be out on what appear to be fairly extensive trials in the next couple of weeks are we to expect a tanker to dock alongside shortly to 'fill her up'?

Port Edgar Marina is the place to be, if you want a top down view then the road bridge is best.

Don't worry I'll be there no matter what. Ps drinks and catch up/reflection at the Hawes Inn on sailing day for those that make it.Thorvicson wrote:Oh good grief you wait 8 years to see her sail, and they put the sailing back to the time you've booked your holiday. It will be interesting to see where the sea trials take place....I can't see her coming back under the bridges once she has sailed. How about:
Contractors sea trials Part one - N Sea/Channel
Break - portsmouth
Contractors Sea Trials Part two - SW Apps??

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Are there any plan for these carriers to have cec incorporated?
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
The most likely method of fuelling the carrier would be by bunkering tanker from the refinery at Grangemouth which is a few miles upstream from Rosyth

CEC on the carriers? no. What are they going to engage with?
Do need to get something set up between Crowsnest, F35 and T45 though, no money for it yet, only an ambition.

I recall reading somewhere that she would return to Rosyth after phase 1 of contractor trials. But reading those tide tables this would seem rather critical but not impossible. I suspect POW could be ready to be moved out of dry dock soon so they will want QE out of the basin.

It has always been the plan that she will go to Portsmouth on completion first set of sea trials.
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
If Babcock has no other scheduled work or plans for Dock 1 after PoW is completed, wouldn't it be simpler to keep PoW in Dock 1 for the fitting out period, while leaving the basin free for QE is she has to return for 'adjustments' ?
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
By the end of June I will have outstanding debt of five pounds to S Avery ex helicopter pilot.(part of flight based in Gibraltar ) I never thought that when we were talking about Invincibles replacement while Justin Stacey's wife sat in the sea harrier on the start of the ramp on a sunny day in1982..(Justin had just left the navy having served on the Ark Royal before she was decommissioned.)We would end up with a replacement that was substantially larger than the ship we standing on.

She is programmed to go alongside Invergordons deep jetty a few times during her trials.
