Great picture shows that most of the flight deck is complete.
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
According to the Portsmouth News, Fallon has said that QE will start trails in "weeks" and will be in Pompey by the Autumn.

I can remember standing on the flight deck and most of the stern was open plan and exposed to the elements lol.RNFollower wrote:Seems like only yesterday the first steel was cut. Now we are nearly at the sea trials stage

My nuts have only just defrosted from that one

But what a site it was (the Queen Elizabeth not Jims nuts )
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
It was quite something to walk (Hobble in my case) under & on the QE. I'm planning on going down to see her arrive in Pompy, though it all depends on just when and how much it will cost to get there.
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Looking up to her flightdeck from the bottom of the bulbous bow was immense...
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
I'm hoping to get down to Pompey for her arrival too! We'll have to go for a pint for old times' sake...SDL wrote:

That would be a good idea, maybe a meet up again if there's a group going?Pymes75 wrote:I'm hoping to get down to Pompey for her arrival too! We'll have to go for a pint for old times' sake...SDL wrote:

I'm still having flashbacks of slipping down the stairs under the forward island and booting someone in the aft.SDL wrote:

Doesn't she look like a REAL carrier from above? In fact, you'd say she looks like one of the American carriers instead of what we've had this last thirty years.cockneyjock1974 wrote:This is fairly recent according to the source. http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5375753

PoW in the dock at top right (: Is that a sub in the dock alongside?
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
I agree, she looks the part from above. An awesome sight of a supercarrier, indistinguishable from American carriers. I have said it before and will say it again, she's a beauty!

I just hope now that are they are about to come online that those pulling the purse strings get there collective heads out of the pigs trough and relies that cronic underfunding is doing more damage than good. With the escort shortage my greatest fear is that they will pull up stumps and sell one off, and shed crocodile tears.
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Thats probably HMS Swifsure, due to be the first nuclear sub to be fully scapped as a demonstrator for the rest. The dock has a special crane fitted to do this.Sunk at Narvik wrote:PoW in the dock at top right (: Is that a sub in the dock alongside?
As an aside I notice on maritime traffic that there is a type 23 just arrived in Rosyth (probably St Albans the fleet ready escort) is this coincidence or signs that an escorted new carrier may be going out on trials??

Would she be assigned an escort for initial trials?KMP1230 wrote: As an aside I notice on maritime traffic that there is a type 23 just arrived in Rosyth (probably St Albans the fleet ready escort) is this coincidence or signs that an escorted new carrier may be going out on trials??

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Is the tentage on the catwalk area of PoW inidicative of them being ahead of schedule? They only did that work on QE when she was in the basin IIRC. Presumably PoW will be a little further along than QE was when they float her out, perhaps the small delay to QE going on her sea trials may mean the PoW gets more time under the Goliath and is further along (and with all of the lessons learned) by the time she is floated out?cockneyjock1974 wrote:This is fairly recent according to the source. http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5375753

yep, trial run of sub disposal, thats the future of the yard.Sunk at Narvik wrote:Is that a sub in the dock alongside?
PoW's blocks where delivered with more work done than QE, and she went together quicker, so it does stand to reason she is further ahead. (relatively)Timmymagic wrote:Presumably PoW will be a little further along than QE was when they float her out,
She totally does now the red had gone, starting to look ready, nearly time to put the RN back into the big league.Adam wrote:I agree, she looks the part from above. Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Wishful thinking on my part, she certainly deserves a full escort! I hope the timing of this is not a consequence of the political landscape at present both north and south of the border preventing the RN from celebrating.....dmereifield wrote:Would she be assigned an escort for initial trials?KMP1230 wrote: As an aside I notice on maritime traffic that there is a type 23 just arrived in Rosyth (probably St Albans the fleet ready escort) is this coincidence or signs that an escorted new carrier may be going out on trials??

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
I'm wary of this. I'm dead keen to see her in service but I know i'm going to see her on a COUGAR deployment with no escorts beyond a French frigate because we can't put anything in the water.shark bait wrote: She totally does now the red had gone, starting to look ready, nearly time to put the RN back into the big league.
