I think you should cut them a bit of slack, it's a new aircraft with only a relatively small number of aircraft. I know they'll be working hard, extra shifts, working weekends etc.

I know people get giddy on here with fantasy fleets but people should wind back their expectations a bit for a few years. Give them another 3/4/5 years then perhaps have a look at the numbers.

How about 11 UK aircraft (6x Merlin + 5x F-35B) vs 10 US aircraft? Better?!

I think this RN news article might explain the lack of UK F-35B numbers for QE, the British planes are also needed for Crimson Warrior at Marham.

Isn't this meant to be our Conventional Detterent Core?
First time she will have double figures fast jets on deck, and the Majority of those are someone else's!
First's should be ours.
Timing of these two Excercises Is poor at best.

This is exactly what happens when you lose the seperation between RAF and FAA planes and have a Joint Forces group instead!

But if the 15 available UK-based F-35B's were split between the two seperate services, the RAF and FAA would have 7.5 planes each!

Parliamentary written answers Sept 9th 2020. This is far more important than how many aircraft will be embarked.

USMC declared IOC for F-35B 2 years before QNLZ was commissioned and ~4 years before the UK.

Is it that surprising they have more airframes and trained crew to go to sea?

I'm looking forward to seeing a busier flight deck and i'm sure the experience the USMC have will be incredibly valuable to our aviators.

QE will be carrying eight UK F-35B's and six UMSC F-35B's for next years CSG21 trip to Asia, according to Commodore Steve Moorhouse, the RN commander of the UK Carrier Strike Group.

Apologies, completely mis-read your post and can see how Nbr 6 spot would be tricky to SRVL on! However, what I was looking at was the fact that it appears PWLS has more Thermal coating applied opposite the aft lift. Might have been mentioned before and I just forgot. 8-) That video from the Wildcat also seems to show more, or extended, darker patches than QNLZ.

As I understand it, the UK has 18 F35s.

3 of these are with 17 Sqn for operational test and evaluation in the US.

6 are with 207 Sqn OCU, being used to the train the trainers, training pilots for 617 Sqn and preparing to train pilots for 809 NAS.

That leaves 9 with 617 Sqn. Deploying 5 of these for exercises this year, and 8 for operations next year is quite impressive to me.

Deploying any more than these would likely just push back the date when 809 NAS would become operational.

Bet its preferable to Yuma by 100%.
Having been to both I'd rather be in Yuma. Great pornshop right outside the main gate there as well.

About as much as her tribe in drink in Soy milk skinny fucking Lattes. The first question they would ask when there is an Akula in the Clyde would be 'where's the Navy'. Answer 'gone south with the economy'. Absolute assholes. I am afraid to say that I am truly ashamed at what Scotland has become. The Scottish regiments were respected and feared because we were renown for being the toughest and most professional units on the field. Now I fear there are nurseries with more heart and courage. Please don't judge us all by the asshats that claim to lead us.

Well it was July through to Sept, so yep.

Better in every way than 3 years at Marhell.

DM is my favourite though.

Agreed, from available assets it is quite impressive.

Still can't understand why MOD didn't take out a 36 month lease on 12 usmc F35Bs, instead of this embarrassment.

You also need trained pilots, and ground personnel that takes time and a lot of hard work. Yes 5 looks pathetic but as Topman wrote earlier in three or four years we will be fine.

Don't forget this will be done at RAF speed i.e. leisurely.

(Just a joke)

So it is actually 15 aircraft out of 45 in reality as the 3 in states will never be used operational and stay in the states, plus at least 7 aircraft have been delayed in ordered due to lack of financing..

I understood that was always the plan. She’d go out for a quick shakedown for a few days after the latest works, return to Portsmouth to pick up stores before departing fairly quickly for the two upcoming exercises.

Does anybody know what the reason is that she cant be "stored up" so she does not have to return to her homeport so speedily? But then again they will be getting more harbor maneuvering practice

Probably returning to pick up the American Stores and Ground crew more than anything else.
