What suitable measures would you suggest to mitigate against this risk?
Using common accepted practice nowadays, a man in a stupid hi-viz vest and a row of orange cones all along the length of the flight deck.

Perfectly safe with either of the above. ;)
Yep or an ex NCP car park attendant, who'll shuffle up to your F35 and say "look son you canny park your vehicle here, it's pay and display, there's a machine at the aft island"

Guys have some very bad news. Mike Eagan (desertswo) passed away last night. He died in his sleep.

Thoughts are with his family.

Eva (Mrs Eagan) said she is going to go on all of Mike's forums and inform everyone when she feels fit to do so. Pls don't panic if you see a post from Mike in the future it will be from her.

Eva also informed me today that Mike was very fond of us Brits, or folks from this side of the pond as he described us. He loved the chats and was glad to continue to be the teacher until the end.

Thank you for all the kind words so far folks.

Very sad news indeed. My condolences to Mike's family. His posts were so full of informations and interesting... :(

Oh, noone's ever heard of Fortune favoring them, sir.
According to General Tacticus, it's because they favor themselves…

RIP. From his profile address I guessed he was a close neighbor of mine, always meant to look him up. Regret not doing so.

Desertswo was a fantastic contributor to this site and the QE thread on mp.net.

I particularly enjoyed his skills as a raconteur when sharing episodes from his career in the USN to add another dimension to some technical point he was making for the benefit of laymen such as myself.

I am very sorry to hear of his passing. RIP.

I will miss him and his wry sens of humour. He taught us so much about aircraft carriers so that we could better appreciate the QEC. He was also a great foil for those who posted without real carrier experience.

Gutted. :(

I really enjoyed Mike's anecdotes, witty repartee and extremely informative stories. I am so sorry for his family and friends. If they do visit this forum (and I'm sure many others), I hope they will take some comfort from the knowledge that he was very well liked and highly valued right up to his last post.

RIP, Mike.

To be still so into it, so dedicated and passonate about every story, every bit of info and sharing knowledge until quite literally mere days beforehand, if this had to be how it is, then from our perspectives at least it marks a mighty strength of will to respect and be thankful for.

I'll miss hearing about his adventures and shenanigans on going outside the permitted limits of how to operate these machines.

I've accidently found our original mp.net 'Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion' thread archived on a Finnish site with the following link. Although many of the photos and videos are missing, all the text is still there. http://www.hollilla.com/reader.php?acti ... ad=2982425
