I'm not against a joint venture, but this isn't it. This is- no insult intended, really- but: Taking advantage of your friend. ( OK, it isn't the first time that the US does that to the UK too, but anyway )serge750 wrote: Im sure we will deploy (one day ) without American aircraft on board, probably for shorter deployments though, north atlantic, med, FALKLADS , next years CSG sounds like it will be more in Americas backyard ( pacific ) so sounds a good idea to have a bit of joint venture ?
In a joint venture each ally shouldn't be a hindrance and trouble for other ally. Or you think that the US Marines don't know what to do with a extra squadron or two, so if they don't send them to QE they will buy few tankers or barges and put them there?

What's her position about heavily armed, well prepared and overmanned armies?
Oh, noone's ever heard of Fortune favoring them, sir.

Do not forget that this is a reciprocal arrangement, with UK F35Bs to deploy on WASP/AMERICA class LHDs as well on a date or dates as yet to be determined. Not surprising really with current initial UK numbers of F35B not being sufficient to make this a practicable possibility at the moment. "THIS IS MOST DEFINITELY IT".

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
To use a comparison- it's like getting married (because I will soon, if this Corona shit allows). So, let's say that I don't have a money, so I ask my best man that he pays for the costs, because we are such good friends and I'm such a nice fellow.
It's nice to have a wedding (yeah right ) and to have a best man, but that isn't the right way to do that. If you don't have the money then make austere wedding, but do not embarrass (and put into a trouble) either yourself or your best man by asking him that he pays.

Well, congrats on the news, even if it is suspended...and if you can get your Best Man to pay for it can he also sub me some money for my Daughters Wedding which was booked for March 27th/28th and has also been postponed to the end of the year...think he may need to also pay for some adjustments to my Father of the Bride Suit as it was tailored pre-lockdown!

I and my then fiancee paid for our own wedding. My parents, as a wedding gift, paid for the photographer. Her parents paid for the flowers. Didn't make sense to us that they be stuck with the cost of the entire show when it benefited us.PhillyJ wrote:Well, congrats on the news, even if it is suspended...and if you can get your Best Man to pay for it can he also sub me some money for my Daughters Wedding which was booked for March 27th/28th and has also been postponed to the end of the year...think he may need to also pay for some adjustments to my Father of the Bride Suit as it was tailored pre-lockdown!
I won't tell you who paid for the engagement ring, it wasn't me, I was broke at the time and the story doesn't exactly show me in a good light

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
In a ideal world the uk would have enough money for a full load of F35 etc, but....
The way I see it, its the americans are getting a lift in our car when we are going in the same general direction rather than using their car when the wife needs it ? are they paying petrol money or just giving us directions and maybe helpng us out if we break down ?
Isn't that what mates do? I honestly think in the situation we are making the best of what we have, i'm sure if the usmc were not helping, we could do 12 planes but on a shorter deployment & leave it a few years before when we have more airframes & went on a longer one

They'll get there, in the end. India has been working - slowly - on its 3 carrier strategy for 20 years. May be this latest rubbing of the shoulders with China will put a tiger in the tank, as they have the paranoia of being encircled by China-Pakistan. This is from the navy chief Admiral Karambir Singh who said a year ago that " India requires at least three aircraft carriers to meet operational needs in the region.operate 2 carriers at sea at the same time
- Strongly advocating the addition of another aircraft carrier to the Indian fleet
- As the only operating carrier currently is the INS Vikramaditya while an indigenous carrier is under construction at Kochi

Ha ha, if I manage to convince him to do that, do find a bridge somewhere close to sell him too...
I hope it won't be posponed but we shall see, man can't do a lot about that... Anyway, today I will do a civil wedding, and about Church we shall see, if Covid allows... So I will be half-married from tomorrow...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Well for now the first would have to operate with half and half UK and USMC and the second with all USMC jets but once we have the numbers we could ether operate both like this at the same time or one all in British carrier group and the other as a NATO carrier group with USMC jets allied escorts the bigger picture here is the UK has 2 sea going carriers that can be surged with allied help. what would our allies want a British carrier with USMC jets on it or no carrierabc123 wrote:Able to operate? PS I would like to see us get to 60 jets to allow 20 jets on each carrier as a base line

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
If that's 12 pilot just from this deployment alone, I'm guessing we have at least two full squadrons of qualified pilots for carrier operations now. It's good to know we're ahead on this - if I remember correctly one of the concerns during the Falklands Conflict initially was that they were low on qualified pilots - plenty of harrier pilots but few were trained for carriers, at least from the RAF for their GR3s.
