On operating Apache from ships:

"The Army Air Corps Apache AH-1, which despite getting some water wings has a laughable sensor suite for maritime warfare. The max radar range on the AH.1.... means any ships it shows would also be visible out of the windows."

Interesting, it's normally a GPMG mounted and not a mini gun, certainly on PWLS anyhow. Perhaps they were expecting the Turktown mob to be a bit fighty today!

It is not its job however if paired with a wildcat the mix of LMM , Hellfire , Brimstone , rockets and 20mm cannon with target info shared on bowman would be interesting

Interesting Photograph!

Firstly, judging by the “Tent coverage“ of the Port & Starboard Bow sponsons on PoW; Could this indicate the possible fitting of her 2 x Forward Phalanx?

Secondly, is it just me, or does this shot not show PoW sitting a little lower in the water than QE! Visible evidence of her greater displacement?

So many mentions of Brimstone
... anything definitive about the Apaches? (thereby ending up carrying a different missile from what our Protectors have?)

Is Exercise Crimson Ocean purely a Carrier and F-35 exercise or is the whole CSG concept being exercised ie QNLZ, F-35, T45, Tide and Fort, and maybe a trials Crowsnest Merlin?

Crowsnest won't be there, but there should be some sort of carrier strike group. I've heard RFA Fort Victoria and a frigate or two will at least take part so there will be some semblance of a strike group, though I'm not sure it will reach the scale planned for CSG 21, nor will there be a full sized air wing (half a dozen F-35s, give or take, about a flight of HM2s and maybe a few miscellaneous helicopters).

Since it's in local waters too I don't know if this formation may only last a day or two for specific training or if it will be maintained for the duration in of the exercise - obviously it wouldn't be absolutely necessary for a replenishment vessel to remain with the carrier the entire time if it is staying around Britain anyway so they might only meet up once or twice for brief replenishment and refuelling.

They could at least put a few Merlins, Apaches, Chinooks and Apaches, so that deck seems not so empty.
Fortune favors brave sir, said Carrot cheerfully.
What's her position about heavily armed, well prepared and overmanned armies?
Oh, noone's ever heard of Fortune favoring them, sir.
According to General Tacticus, it's because they favor themselves…

Either 16 or 24, either way evenly split between the two (8+8 or 12+12). 24 would be ideal and should be standard by the mid 2020s but it might be a bit lower at first.
