Ford many years late and still a year plus away from being added to the USN Naval Vessel Registry (NVR) list of active ships (did see a pessimistic date of 2024), though commissioned July 2017, just declared the 5th of the 11 maglev weapon elevators operational, the first from the forward magazine to deck.

What did surprise me was the comment "nailing down the best ways to build each elevator – with each of the 11 being somewhat unique from the others". Americans in the past were known for their standardised build.

Indeed.
Fortune favors brave sir, said Carrot cheerfully.
What's her position about heavily armed, well prepared and overmanned armies?
Oh, noone's ever heard of Fortune favoring them, sir.
According to General Tacticus, it's because they favor themselves…

Not really. Shock testing still hasn't been done as this was meant for hull #2 (79-Kennedy), due to the fact that they couldn't be sure if too much damage would occur on the first hull (78-Ford) and that would put back the list of fixes already needed to be done. EMALS still dodgy. Some weapons handling lifts dodgy.

Could also be linked to the fact that more people are at home and out and about (only for their 1 hour of exercise of course) and hearing it. Winds have apparently been from the East more so than normal and therefore the constant drone could be being pushed toward the Turkers...

Could also be the fact that the complainant, having just switched on their kettle did not realise that they might be “the straw” that caused the DG set to kick-in and support the National Grid. Perhaps they would have preferred silent Nuclear Power. Ha Ha Ha! No? I don’t think so either. Perhaps they would prefer not to be able to use their kettle instead!
IIRC the installed substations for the QEC Carriers were designed to facilitate current flow in both directions for just this sort of scenario.

HMS Queen Elizabeth: Coronavirus
Mr Stephen Morgan: [39017]
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, how many tests for covid-19 have been
carried out on the crew of HMS Queen Elizabeth.

Mr Stephen Morgan: [39019]
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, with reference to the covid-19 outbreak, what
steps his Department is taking to ensure that social distancing measures are complied
with on board HMS Queen Elizabeth.

Mr Stephen Morgan: [39020]
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what steps his Department is taking to prevent
the transmission of covid-19 on board HMS Queen Elizabeth.

Mr Stephen Morgan: [39021]
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what contingency plans are in place to tackle
an outbreak of covid-19 on board HMS Queen Elizabeth while that vessel is on exercise.

James Heappey:
The whole of HMS QUEEN ELIZABETH's ship's company will be tested for COVID-
19 prior to her departure for a period of Operational Sea Training.
The Royal Navy is well prepared to respond to COVID-19 and has well-rehearsed
plans in place for dealing with health matters.
Public Health England (PHE) guidelines on social distancing will be followed by the
ship's company where practical. It is acknowledged that it is difficult to socially
distance within a warship, and there will be a number of essential operational and
training tasks where this will not be possible.
To reduce the risk of transmission, further emphasis is being placed on the cleaning
of communal areas and personal hygiene. In addition, members of the ship's
company who are, or whose households are, symptomatic will be isolated before
embarking, in accordance with PHE self-isolation guidelines.
QUEEN ELIZABETH will sail with a medical facility including a full complement of
medical staff and doctors. Any individual who experiences symptoms will be isolated
onboard in accordance with PHE guidelines and receive the appropriate medical
attention.

If the Royal Navy manages to pull off a successful deployment with no cases of Coronavirus on board, it will be a huge achievement. Fingers crossed.

At short notice HMS Queen Elizabeth is departing HMNB Portsmouth to continue her next phase of operational sea training.

(NavyLookout/Portsmouth Proud) 29th April 2020

Full story here: https://www.savetheroyalnavy.org/hms-qu ... 19-crisis/

The crew have all been tested for COVID-19 but as a further precaution, she will have a period of isolation at sea, before training and assessment by FOST (Flag Officer Sea Training) staff. The air group will join in a few weeks time.

It's good to see clearly that the Captain has the discretion to return to port no questions asked as well.

Except that the papers will run stories saying that it's been a failure and that the deployment should never have happened in the first place

Many cases are asymptomatic and you can have a high temperature for many reasons, so a temperature test wouldn't prove anything except what your temperature is.

So they must have been swabbed.
