Just thinking...surely the flight deck markings are the clue to the length. On the 'runway' there are feet remaining painted on the deck. If you can get an overhead shot of both QE and PoW finding those and drawing a line across to other features such as the elevators and islands would give a clue where (if any) the difference is. It's a big deck for sure but 3 metres extra length should show up.seaspear wrote:So some of the members here might visit her with tape measures etc and put this argument to rest lol

Anyone have any idea what access is going to be like for HMS PWLS? I'm told there's 40 steps, unsure if that's just to get on? Dreading the idea of steps in this weather... wet as well!

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Can only advise on what it was for the commissioning and family day after, it utilised the HMNB gangways so may be different. They were quite safe for use in wet weather, 40 steps sounds about right but didn't count them. They were not in one straight line, so went up one level then turned and went up further so the incline is not straight from the dock to the ship gangway. As she is alongside a cruise terminal I would imagine that the steps will be 'public' friendly, however once on her then the steps are narrow and typical of a RN vessel albeit a bit wider due to her size. If you are going from the hangar to the flight deck then there are a number of steps to use, I would assume a one way system is in use to go up via one Island and down via the other.Miss Armchair Soldier wrote:Anyone have any idea what access is going to be like for HMS PWLS? A Scouse taxi ride down to the Mersey to see PoW
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Well jealous of the people getting to go around POW, wonder if they will have one of the elevators going from hanger to flight deck - or would that be a H&S nightmare for jo-public didn't realise how big the windscreen wipers were on the flyco !!!
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
You should see the size of the wipers spare 'fallopian tubes'....serge750 wrote: didn't realise how big the windscreen wipers were on the flyco !!!

If those are the USB ports, how big is the mouse?
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

It is a river SKB. Its bound to be at least a bit brown given the current weather......SKB wrote:Got to say, that Mersey water looks filthy, its BROWN!
Those tugs certainly didn't waste any time turning her around.
Still remember one island no ramp...
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
^ There. Captain Darren Houston said PoW is 280m long and 65,000 tonnes.

After asking McTaggart Scott directly nearly 10 years ago and getting nowhere. I finally found out how they transported the aircraft lifts from the south of Edinburgh to Rosyth.......
They didn’t!!!
Babcock made them under license in Rosyth for McTaggart Scotts. I can see why they were cagey now.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
She is such a handsome ship. To we have any timescales for when she will begin flight trials etc.?
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Just noticed they've got a Wokka on board. Must be the first time?
I presume after her sister did all the qualification trials it's a lot simpler for HMS Prince of Wales to embark new types. Especially with her vastly larger deck and all .....
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
From videos I've been watching, you go up steps onto to the rear lift and in through the aft hangar doors, tour all the hangar exhibits (including a Chinook and Merlin), then exit out the forward hangar doors onto the forward lift and down steps to the jetty. There's no visiting the flight deck.
