Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Ok,but haven't we been already told by one of the captains that HMS pow is slightly larger just recently and heavier or I'm I making that up ?
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Regardless of potential inaccuracy, good spot @Coop !!

What's her position about heavily armed, well prepared and overmanned armies?
Oh, noone's ever heard of Fortune favoring them, sir.
According to General Tacticus, it's because they favor themselves…

So which is correct?SKB wrote:A bit surprising to read from it that PoW is supposedly 3 metres wider and 4 metres longer. I've previously measured them both from photos and they're identical

Can’t seem to get beyond a blurry image, but it looks like 4 GP + 9 ASW. Was expecting 5 + 8; now let’s hope for 9 ASW T26sbobp wrote:I see 9abc123 wrote:Just 4 Type 23?

Indeed you are right. I see the 4 now.Repulse wrote:but it looks like 4 GP + 9 ASW.
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
It's 5 GP + 8 ASW, but the ones shown here are divided by home port (Devonport on the left, Portsmouth on the right - plus Clyde on the far right and RFA below).Repulse wrote:Can’t seem to get beyond a blurry image, but it looks like 4 GP + 9 ASW. Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
I'll take the official figures from a sanctioned RN release over the musings of anyone on this forum, thank you very much. Unless & until I see a redaction and re-release, showing they're the same size, POW is the bigger ship and these are the correct dimensions & displacement.bobp wrote:So which is correct?SKB wrote:A bit surprising to read from it that PoW is supposedly 3 metres wider and 4 metres longer. Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Who cares who's willy is bigger. Unless one of them runs over your foot it makes absolutely no difference.

..I know the QE class has a reduced crewing requirement compared to the American carriers but that is just ridiculous

A kind reminder, please don't quote posts with large/lots of images.

Pretty sure the current captain mentioned it but cannot remember where or on what media, although the following RN link does hint at a slight difference.inch wrote:Ok,but haven't we been already told by one of the captains that HMS pow is slightly larger just recently and heavier or I'm I making that up ?

'HMS Prince of Wales, which by naval tradition will be referred to in the feminine form despite carrying the title of the male heir apparent, is marginally larger and heavier than her sister.'
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
(Liverpool Echo) 27th February 2020
The Royal Navy has confirmed the arrival time of the HMS Prince of Wales into Liverpool.
The aircraft carrier will make her way up the River Mersey and arrive into Liverpool Cruise Terminal at around 2pm. (Friday 28th February 2020)
The 65,000 tonne warship is expected to start up the river around 12.30pm before turning 180 degrees in the Mersey at 1.30pm.
She will then dock at the cruise terminal with her starboard (right) side on the jetty and her bow facing the mouth of the River Mersey .
However, these times are dependant on the weather conditions and could change.

So some of the members here might visit her with tape measures etc and put this argument to rest lol

The carrier will be stripped and on bricks before it docks at the cruise terminal
