Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Stand down, just had a note from my lad to say that PWLS is not leaving tomorrow now due to weather...also keeping QNLZ from coming home to port apparently.
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Didn't think PoW sailing was likely, they aren't even sailing IOW ferries or hovercraft from Portsmouth because of the storm.
And another storm called Dennis is on the way....

But apparently the IoW Catamaran was going when all the others weren't, which is unusual as it's normally the other way round!SKB wrote:Didn't think PoW sailing was likely, they aren't even sailing IOW ferries or hovercraft from Portsmouth because of the storm.

Tugs are out at Portsmouth, PoW is being moved at 13:00 back to Victory Jetty, bows north. Still don't see any CIWS on her.

Interesting that the QHM website is stating that the MV Eems Dundee is coming in and berthing at the Princess Royal Jetty later on today...bit odd I thought but hapy to be enlightened as to why this might be.

Just down the road from Knotty Ash. Home of the fearsome Ken Dodd and his Diddy Men
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
That comment is completely at odds with comments in Liverpool . It may be Her Majesty's Ship. But' she is ours '. And you know how Liverpudlians come together to protect there own. CIWS protecting her is nothing compared to city of pissed off Scousers .Ron5 wrote:PoW needs CIWS to visit Liverpool?Tough city.

A friend tells me that QE and two frigates were sitting of the coast at Lowestoft on Tuesday afternoon and were clearly visible from the shore.

For those going to see her, best of times. I still remember the MP.net guys of this and its original topic getting me into the trip up to be on QE during her last few months of construction. Incredible experience.
Hope to get on board one of them again to see them functioning, and maybe witness who would become a UKDJ journalist tripping over the HMWHS again.

I enjoyed my trip, can't say the same for the person I managed to accidentally boot when I went in the air.
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Saw that, a few time slots keep appearing on the Sunday now and again but once you get to them they say 'no seats' available. I wonder how many were available per slot.RichardIC wrote:Tickets all sold out

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
There were 50 places available for each 15 minute slot. So 2,500 in total - gone within an hour.PhillyJ wrote:I wonder how many were available per slot.
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Another weekend chance to see the 2 QE class together in their home port, although not sure the harbour tours will be running what with Storm Dennis ruining another Saturday and Sunday!
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
03:00 ?! So, arriving home, squeezing between Round Tower, Fort Blockhouse, then berthing in front of PoW at PRJ. At night, in a storm.
What could possibly go wrong?!

Sky is clear, moon is bright, winds calm (before the storm?!). Portsmouth Harbour awaits!
01:22 - Four tugs, presumably for QE, have just left Portsmouth Harbour. T23's HMS Sutherland and HMS Argyll (QE escorts?) are both just south of the Nab Tower.
01:42 - QE's AIS is now on, transmitting as 'HMS Daring' , just to the south of the Nab Tower.
02:15 - Five tugs and QE meet east of Bembridge, IOW.
02:30 - QE and tugs turn NW into the Solent, speed 8.4 kts.
03:00 - QE passing between two outermost Solent sea forts, No Man's Land Fort and Horse Sand Fort, speed 6.8 kts
03:14 - QE passes between innermost Solent sea fort Spitbank Fort and Southsea Castle, speed 7.5 kts.
03:16 - Passes RN War Memorial on Southsea Common.
