Glad to see it progressing, demonstrates the inherent flexibility of Integrated Electric Propulsion, without it would be almost impossible to replace two engines with three bigger ones.

It will also achieve logistical commonality with the Type 23 CSP, which also get the 4000, and with the Type 26.

That can't be a bad thing.

Rolls-Royce is to supply eighteen MTU Series 4000 diesel generator sets to BAE Systems as part of the Power Improvement Project (PIP) to increase the resilience of the power and propulsion system in all six Type 45 destroyers. The six ships will receive three of the units each.

Makes you wonder who and what the extra personel are onboard for. We hear about the shadowing Russian Krivak gathering intel on Duncan.I wonder what boat the have shadowing her as well. I have no doubts that Duncan is doing exactly the same thing and more. So I would expect extra EW specialists and MOD boffins onboard for the duration of the black sea visit.

They will be listening to and recording not only naval traffic, but shoreside radars, aircraft comms and radars etc, they might also get some nice usefull underwater signatures as well. Back to the old cold war games. Well it never really stopped did it. :shh:

with the Russian jets knocking about they would be picking a good radar picture of SU 24/30 would also be able to track them in and out to get a idea of how far they pick them up and what they look like

as for the extra bods maybe some will be to with Flag ship duties there also looked to be a good number of RM

It’s a welcome chance to thank @HMSDragon for their recent work and discuss the highlights of their deployment so far, including Ex #SaifSareea3 in Oman, Ex Konkan with the Indian Navy and their recent drug bust with @CMF_Bahrain CTF150.

Fortune favors brave sir, said Carrot cheerfully.
What's her position about heavily armed, well prepared and overmanned armies?
Oh, noone's ever heard of Fortune favoring them, sir.
According to General Tacticus, it's because they favor themselves…

And those aircraft carry how many missiles each?

I've always been a little uneasy with the capacity, it's difficult, but a determined emery could saturate the system. Two runs similar to the Russians demonstration to Duncan could probably do the trick.

Again, this highlights the need for a carrier.

If the ships were in danger of iron bombs and strafing from aircraft there would be no problem ,but aircraft and land based launchers with salvos of hyper sonic missiles becomes more mathematically challenging

Again for me it highlights the need to dump Aster 15 and go to CAMM on the Type 45 18 of the 48 A50 cells would allow 72 CAMM to be carried along with 30 Aster 30 would give each type 45 102 missiles
