(NavyLookout) 2nd September 2019
HMS Dragon left Portsmouth on 2nd September 2019 for Westlant19....

(ships, planes and gaming) 2nd December 2019
....and has returned on 2nd December 2019, exactly 3 months to the day.

(PortsHistDockyard) 2nd December 2019
Emblazoned with brilliant red Welsh dragons on her bow, HMS Dragon (D35) has recently been off the coast of America with HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Northumberland and RFA Tideforce on the Westlant19 deployment.

The ship and her crew return to Portsmouth Naval Base on Monday. Her main role in the fleet is air defence; providing protection to her fellow ships by detecting, interrogating and neutralising enemy threats with her special anti-air missile system.

The first ever Dragon was built at Chatham in 1647 and was a 38-gun fourth rate frigate. She had 50 guns and packed a real punch. You can now see the newest HMS Dragon at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.

I already had read this but I cannot remember where. The reason given then was backlog at camel laird. My guess it's just year end budget woes.

The Janes article puts the blame on issues at Portsmouth (the dockyard specifically) but doesn't expand further. It also confirms the RN's ambition for the first QEC deployment to be accompanied by two Type 45's

Lurid piccy of Dragonfire shooting down all before it. From the Telegraph this morning, not seen it before myself, apologies if others have.

I would say the main effort this year will be the work up of the carrier group before deployment next year and with this in mind most type 45 work load will be around this

The silver lining to this, I guess, is that the T45's will have a longer life due to this spell of inaction.

But didn't she have impressive upperworks as compensation?

if its true, surely it must be a good sign for our poor navy.

Nothing exactly new in that article.
Fortune favors brave sir, said Carrot cheerfully.
What's her position about heavily armed, well prepared and overmanned armies?
Oh, noone's ever heard of Fortune favoring them, sir.
According to General Tacticus, it's because they favor themselves…

It just repeats a UKDJ article from a couple of months ago.

But it’s wrong in stating Paul Sweeney is an MP. He’s an ex MP who lost his seat in the December 2019 General Election.

So it’s just one bloke and his opinion really. It’s a pity as Sweeney actually made some really useful contributions to the Defence Select Committee.

When they are doing the engine "fix" to the T45s, why do they not put a CAMM mushroom farm in the Mk42 space? It could increase the overall load out of SAM to (say) 48+24 = 72?

(NavyLookout/PortsmouthProud) 16th March 2020
Glorious sunshine for HMS Dauntless as she sails from Portsmouth for the first time in 4 years after being laid up and then having refit. She will conduct initial sea training and basic trials and have a short period at sea to baseline exiting machinery performance. She will then head to Cammell Laird in Birkenhead to have engine upgrade work.

Lovely sight, great video. But who swiped the Phalanx?

PS all Type 45's should have a bow decal like Dragon.
