I hope not, in the sense of mushrooms being used we need to get away from them they take away one on CAMMs big strengths of being compact. We really need to bite the bullet and invest in EXcL

It's got nothing to do with ExLS. CAMM can be densely packed without ExLS, look at the version the Army have.

What rest of it? It's all sealed in the canister.

I understand Navy is using the same canister. We can see the square top panels of the canisters in many photos (e.g. those on HMS Argyll). So, "what are the mushroom caps for?" is the main question. Or, "can it be more compact?".

I guess the answer is yes, if someone just pays a small amount of money...

They are definitely designed to be packed more tightly because the Army pack them more tightly, and much of the early images showed them packed more tightly. However they've clearly hit a snag during integration. At first I thought it was laziness and just dropping them into the old Sea Wolf silos, but that doesn't explain how the same 'mushrooms' have shown up replacing the Mk41's on the Anzac Class upgrade;

Those mushroom caps returned when hms argll was photoed returning to uk near Gibraltar.
Imho i think they are bad weather transit caps.

I suspect the Navy safety regulations for installing CAMM on a Type 45 would be ever so slightly more comprehensive than carrying them on an army truck or firing them individually from a frozen tundra.

To me the advantage of ExLs for the Type 45 is that the VLS comes equipped with the CAMM firing control black boxes (as shown in the LM brochure) and so is a self contained, tested and qualified, unit. Not plug and play by any means but does remove a lot of work that would have to be done to the Type 45.

The bad news may be that the ExLs is not be large enough for the CAMM-ER. But maybe nobody cares but me

Correct. Also to note is that the 'stalks' of the mushrooms installed because CAMM is taller than Sea Wolf are alternately (per row) angled such that if the rocket motor fails to fire the missile should fall overboard and not onto the VLS.

I know , terrible that really isn't it that we only have so few that 3 ships at sea at once seem like a amazing thing and should be the absolute base line at all times

The Type 4X Destroyer – The next British warship
The UK Defence Journal has been speaking to Paul Sweeney, former MP for Glasgow North East and former shipbuilder. We have been told that consideration is already being given to the development of an Anti-Air Warfare variant of the Type 26, a variant that will function as a future replacement for the Type 45 Destroyer fleet – the programme is currently referred to as as T4X.

And how reliable is Mr Paul Sweeney? I suspect he is after support from the Scottish unions for re-election in the next general election.

Would this be similar to what Canada is doing in its frigate program based on the type 26 but with two classes one for the asw and other for aaw and perhaps use some of the design in that program for the 4x perhaps need new thread if we go off the type 45 thread lol

Or from news to speculation - the borderline is wafer thin, though.
... we would be then free to speculate all we want

A really important milestone today in the Power Improvement Programme in T45 with the undocking of
HMS Dauntless despite the challenges of COVID-19; great work by the team of CammellLaird, BAES_Maritime, DefenceES and the Royal Navy
