I do like the heraldic lion (?). Shame there is no HMS Lion that could better carry it :(

As I said before for me any new LHA/ LHD/LPH should be HMS Glorious and Courageous

Glorious should be reserved for when we next commission a 12th SSN (in a Flotilla of 12) and Courageous for a 3rd QEC (or Light Carrier).

A little off topic but the big cats would have worked well for a class of SSK's with

Jaguar - Lion - Tiger - Puma - Leopard - Lynx

Sorry guys, I suppose this is River OPV thread. :D

By the way, for me it is not clear, why some ships have these marks while others do not. Just a matter of sponsor? Or, RN has its own definition = a set of "ship-names" which are "allowed" to use such marks?

Sorry, not so new, but I missed to share this nice movie. I clearly shows HMS Forth carrying Rigid Radar = 3rd boat on her Port-side waist.

Twin barrel?..... Pitiful. Imagine what one of these could inflict on a skiff in the Gulf:

In all seriousness, if we're set to introduce both the 40mm and 57mm for the Type 31, shouldn't they be starting to be acquired in the near future for shore based testing and familiarisation? Introduction of relatively simple weapons systems seems to move at glacial pace over here.

Is it me, or is no-one actually aiming those guns? It looks like the guy on the nearside may be using his knee to operate the trigger!

I assume you folks know it's a simple matter to upgrade the DS30M to 40mm? Only 6 gun parts need changing according to Bushmasters manufacturer. Of course more would need to change on the mount like ammo feeds.

Also Bushmaster is (or has) upgrading it's 40mm to fire the Bofors 3P ammo. Not sure if this is the same gun that fits the DS30 tho. I don't think it is but I'm not 100%. I'm a tad confused over both the DS30 and the Bushmaster variants and what fits or doesn't fit what.

And now, HMS Severn has recommissioned.

What made it so long. Looking at the twitter comment of her skipper using the ship from months ago, it was primarily of lack of crew and their training ?

Also, as the skipper (forgot his name) says, the ship looks like to be used mainly for navigation training.

They will play an important role in training Royal Navy navigators, who will join the ship for testing pilotage off the west coast of Scotland and in the English Channel.

But, does't the EEZ patrol/fishery protection OPV better be more visible than stealthy?

What if the fishery boat misunderstand the distance to the vessel, or its shape? :D

Actually, Canadian navy painted one of its frigates (and another MCDV) to this color.
