Tiderace has departed San Diego and is headed south at 16 knots.
Re: Tide Class Tankers (MARS) (RFA)
Tiderace has vanished ? She's turned off the tracker.
Last headed south from San Diego toward Panama and may be visiting Baltimore before heading to the UK?
Tide surge officially named.

Tiderace has turned her AIS back on.
She's been through the canal and is approaching Aruba just off Venezuela.

Great to see them progressing quickly now, looking forward to seeing Tidespring filling up QE in the near future I hope.

Re: Tide Class Tankers (MARS) (RFA)
Would it be worth Tiderace diverting north to assist in the Caribbean? I don't suppose she's got the ship's boats or cranes (or even the crew for that matter) fitted to her to be of use yet?

That's one of the Dutch naval bases in the region, I believe - could be pausing while they assess whether there is anything useful that she could do? Or maybe just waiting for the weather in the Atlantic to improve to the point where she can make a safe transit in her current state of buildSmokey wrote:She's in Curaçao at present.

More likely just giving the crew a few days of shore leave as a break during the long voyage home. This is exactly what Tidespring did in Curaçao on her delivery trip.Caribbean wrote:That's one of the Dutch naval bases in the region, I believe - could be pausing while they assess whether there is anything useful that she could do? Re: Tide Class Tankers (MARS) (RFA)
When Tidespring called into Curaco she offloaded some cargo there. I remember seeing a picture of some ISO containers being offloaded. Nice place for scuba diving in that part of the world, the water is crystal clear.

I went to Maui a year after the Hurricane blew thru. No coral. All killed. Diving was crap.
Re: Tide Class Tankers (MARS) (RFA)
Tiderace is underway again. Heading N.E. from Curaçao in the approximate direction of Anguilla.

This time would be handy if a few containers were put onto the ship, for helicoptering ashore e.g. in Anguilla.bobp wrote:Curaco [she offloaded some cargo there. I] remember seeing a picture of some ISO containers being offloaded.

As for Tiderace, she has this habit of switching off her AIS. Possibly mid N.Atlantic right now?

Tiderace has arrived off Cornwall, currently showing east of St Mawes. Due to dock in Falmouth tomorrow at 8am.

I wonder how they measure up against the re-constructed RCN Asterix.
