I think 'Hull' would be a terrible name for a warship. May as well call it HMS Superstructure. No disrespect to the City with the unfortunate name Hull.

Selection of the Future Frigate’s combat management system (CMS), was run as a seperate assessment and was due to conclude in September. It was contested by the US Navy’s Aegis command and weapon control system and Saab Australia’s tailored version of the Saab 9LV CMS, already deployed on the Anzac Class and the two LHDs and mandated for the RAN’s two under-construction replenishment ships.

Either of the two CMS could be installed in any one of the three competing frigate designs. It appears that Australia has chosen a Saab tactical interface front end, coupled to an Aegis back end. This means, once the same Saab interface is installed on the AWDs, they can have the same interface across their fleet while using the Aegis on the high end destroyers and frigates.

The selection of Aegis, and the emphasis given to air defence, probably makes it more likely that the chosen design will have a 48 cell mk41 VLS capability.

yep. Unless the T26 folks have some innovative way to produce 48 VLS or more, I reckon their chances are fading.

That said, if they could find a way to fit an AEGIS T26 with LRASM, SM-6, SM-2 & ESSM II in 48 VLS (or more), that would really be something.

There is room for 48 mk41 cells on the T26 design, and on the other two contenders.
