IMHO it would make alot of sense on a number of levels. Scale up CL with all those soon-to-be-unemployed Vauxhall workers from Ellesmere Port. How much would Govan be worth as a redevelopment...waterfront property 1 mile from the centre of the UK's number two city. Williamstown in Melbourne went through the same gentrification cycle.jimthelad wrote:Socially distanced beer with neighbour last night (across the garden fence- BrewDog of course). Batch 2 T26 WILL NOT be built on Clyde if a second referendum goes ahead. Moves to use Appledore for blocks and CL for weld-up and finish.

Not sure it would get out of the doors...it will at Govan. The Portsmouth site is massively restricted in terms of size and expansion room.RichardIC wrote:It doesn't fit at Govan.
If we were building a new yard (and we'd need to) better to build one with expansion potential.
Re: Type 26 Frigate (City Class) (RN) [News Only]
They built parts of the QE and T45 in Portsmouth's shed. How much more room than that do you need? It has the room to build two T26's side by side, its bigger than the one currently being built at Babcock Rosyth too.
Re: Type 26 Frigate (City Class) (RN) [News Only]
Does anyone know how many ExLS cells the RCN will have on each Type 26, each carrying 4 Sea Ceptor?

If Yes2 is successful, property in Scotland in general and Glasgow in particular will be worth JackShit.

Yes I believe so, they were shipped over from Holland?Jdam wrote:Are the masts for the Type 45 composite as well?

That is the Type 26 masts. The Type 45 are steel construction and were built in Portsmouth by Vosper Thornycroft/VT/BVTRichardIC wrote:Norwegian manufacture to a BAE design.90inFIRST wrote:Yes I believe so, they were shipped over from Holland?

So will the Sea Cadets up in rural Cheshire be building their own Carrier complete with a F-35?
Re: Type 26 Frigate (City Class) (RN) [News Only]
Cheshire Sea Cadets T26 to become an escort for Fleet Air Arm Museum's QE playground ?!
Re: Type 26 Frigate (City Class) (RN) [News Only]
Maybe they finish it before the actual ship.
Fortune favors brave sir, said Carrot cheerfully.
What's her position about heavily armed, well prepared and overmanned armies?
Oh, noone's ever heard of Fortune favoring them, sir.
According to General Tacticus, it's because they favor themselves…

Lockheed as prime contractor for the CSC/T26 have contracted for four Leonardo Oto Melara 127/64mm main guns including the Automatic Ammunition Handling System (AAHS) in preference to the BAE Inc USN Mk45 Mod 4 127/62 as fitted in the T26.
The 127 /64 LW Vulcano can fire the guided long range (GLR) and ballistic extended range (BER) shells besides the standard 127 mm round as the Mk45 currently limited to.
Would be of interest if value of contract disclosed to compare to the $245 million MoD awarded to BAE Inc Jul 2016 for the Mk45s, both contracts are for three ship sets and a fourth for training.
