Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

So, development of CMS integration cost is already /or will be done for ASTER15/30 (T45 but with Sylver), CAMM (T23), TLAM, ASROC and other (will be T26). TLAM and ASROC on Mk41 is OK (USN), but ASTER15/30 on Mk41 is not. (But, RetroSicotte-san was anyway not proposing it). UK PAAMS handles Asters ...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

This creates major issues for the Type 45's fitting though. Not really. The T45 can also take more Sylver cells (though not as many as it could Mk41s). It could probably also take quite a lot of CAMM, if needed. BMD capability is arguably more important than Land Attack etc, particularly when Astut...

Re: Future Solid Support Ship

Lots of articles in the press today regarding the MOD putting bids to build the 3 FSS vessels out to international tender at the end of the month. How is this possible if a design has not been finalised? The winner will get to design and then build it. So the one billion would get a chunk carved ou...

No proof there was any UK SSN in the Med.

Most media reports were based on the lie that they'd heard the PM had directly ordered an Astute there.

I'm not as good as Donald-san when it comes to breaking a long post into short soundbites but here goes: I have been making the same point over and over. The MoD has a wish list of extra kit the T-26 needs to do the job it is supposed to. It is looking at all the shiny leaflets and the admirals are ...

No. It was very specific on what type of warship. Escorts & carriers in the UK, the rest up for bid by anyone.

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Ah so you've changed your tune. One minute it was complete silence, sorry "SILENCE", from the MoD. Now it's "they should have ordered the missiles by NOW" because if they don't, it means they won't be buying any at ALL. And because of this, "they should have bought FREMMs&qu...

If there is a future LHD, it will be built abroad. Probably Korea. The new government policy is that every warship except for frigates, destroyers, submarines & aircraft carriers, will be open for the lowest bidder. Might make you happy. Might not. If that is true then if any SSK's were to be a...

We are now told, almost every time a minister etc. talks about the T-26, how it is a world beating ASW vessel. Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Historically many in service platforms have only been brought up to what was supposed to be their initial capability through UORs, the Radar on the Tornado F3 in the GW1 being a good example. Minor point but this would be a poor example. I'm pretty sure the Portland Blue Circle radar originally fit...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

My argument is that the T-26 was NOT designed as a specialised ASW vessel, but is being both funded and spun as one. Not sure where you are getting this from. Surely calling the design a "Global Combat Ship" is spinning that it is more capable than just ASW? As for funding, the original T...

I have zero problems with guesses whether they are educated or not. Just as long as they are presented as guesses and not stated as facts. The two most recent major warship programs would not be good examples of the theory the T26 will sail with empty magazines. Both the T45's and the Astutes have f...

Looks like a very credible multi mission frigate. I suspect though its competition is not the T26 but the new French FTI and other designs in that frigate category. Not sure how they can scale up a standard displacement of 3800t to 6000t with only 130m length and 16m beam. Re. the FLD tons displace...

It is well known high currency is BAD for industry (but good for finance). I would beg to differ and here is why. Finance is a service industry. Manufacturing in the UK is largely a value added industry, the UK would import a lot of materials, parts etc and add some value to export these. The high ...
