Re: New Medium Helicopter [NMH] - (RAF & AAC)
It’s a great idea but it might be best just to buy 50x UH-60 and immediately start the process of designing a universal helo design for joint use in the RAF, Army and RN. Already happening with the NATO Next-Generation Rotorcraft Capability (NGRC) program. Supposed to produce the Merlin replacement...

Re: New Medium Helicopter [NMH] - (RAF & AAC)
If they are falling over themselves for Blackhawk and wish to ignore the supposed industrial strategy cut the program delete the funding. They might get the message then that industrial resilience matters it’s not a catchy sound bite. yeah, that'll help the squaddies Does in France and Italy What o...

Re: New Medium Helicopter [NMH] - (RAF & AAC)
Let's hope NMH doesn't end up as the second worse. Blackhawk is the only contender that's been designed for battle rather than being a civvy painted green. Should be an easy pick. Pity none of the contenders went for a full Union Flag paint scheme... Seems to have worked in the past. Suspect if Bla...

Re: New Medium Helicopter [NMH] - (RAF & AAC)
I thought this an interesting line in the government announcement yesterday on procurement shakeup. “ On exportability, yesterday I published the next stage of our New Medium Helicopter competition – this includes a strong weighting for exports to ensure the high quality rotary work it will support...

Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]
So in summary you only want to buy two T32s. As T32=T31B2. No the opposite. Forget about T31 and T32. It’s obscuring. RN needs an improved T31 with a bit more capability. A maximised platform with known bottlenecks removed at build. IMO seven hulls is all that can be managed without further funding...

Re: New Medium Helicopter [NMH] - (RAF & AAC)
Actual long term benefit to British Industry is considerable in the case of the Leonardo offering - which has also been selected by Poland and the US, so it's not exactly an orphan like Ajax. Shutting down a major Uk industry just as we're verging on a hot war with Russia? Not terribly smart. We're...

Re: New Medium Helicopter [NMH] - (RAF & AAC)
If it is true that the services are overwhelmingly in favor of the Black Hawk, and assuming that's based on real objective data (not sentiment), it would be a total disgrace to select one of the other offerings. And yes, even if it goes against the industrial strategy. All offerings are basically bu...

I'm sure I've asked before but I have forgotten the answer but why on earth do they wear army camouflage?? Especially at sea. I think that its just the aircrew wearing the camouflage uniforms. But I could be wrong. Yeah but why?? They all Navy dudes and dudesses. There's no navy blue version of tha...

Babcock also states that in order to put those 16 cells in the B position, they had to add a hull plug… I believe 2.3m or 3m, I’m not sure. I do not think this is correct. The 2m plug can clearly be seen on the MNP model. It lengthens the hangar. Not the bow. There may well be a plug amidship to le...

Bet it's cheap. The Navy should just get a couple to play with so they can figure out what they're good for

Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]
Obviously, it's illogical (and financially retarded) for the Navy to throw away brand new Mushrooms in order to replace with expensive ExLs but also I'm not so sure that mixing cold and hot launch missiles in the same VLS is as simple as some here assume.

Babcock also states that in order to put those 16 cells in the B position, they had to add a hull plug… I believe 2.3m or 3m, I’m not sure. As is, T31 cannot take 16 Mk41 cells in the B position. It can however take 24 CAMM mushrooms, Babcock had a model with it when it first introduced T31. Strike...
