Re: F-35B Lightning (RAF & RN)

Same primary reason for the RN back in the day, but AAR is refuelling nonetheless, and the example of the Belize operation shows what can be done if the need arises. By the time any Victor (Voyager) Tankers could have been arranged, the operation would have had no point, because it would have been ...

Re: F-35B Lightning (RAF & RN)

According to big Mike Eagan (RIP) who worked in the Pentagon. The next question asked after "where are the carriers?" is "where are the AAR tankers?" Topman is correct. Remember buddy buddy refueling in the USN, is primarily to get bolters back on deck. The Belize operation was o...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

I wonder if they're looking at all of the extreme long range air to air missiles that are designed to attack AEW and tankers and thinking about the long term viability of a large platform, particularly one that has to emit. It's probably safe for now, but you have to wonder about when and if those ...

I think it was more about as a sensor platform than hardware capabilities to be honest. It was just the strangest comment that struck me. Anyway most of us lot here will not know if he’s talking shite or not.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Spoke to a senior RAF officer at last years Remembrance Day, who was the bastion of OPSEC, couldn’t get any scoops from him. What he did offer to me after a few beers was that in his personal opinion the F35 negated the need for Poseidon. Still getting my head around this.

I imagine its going to be a bit odd to look at Rosyth and not see a carrier in or at least one under construction after 10 years of it.

I’ve had another post removed, because I’ve criticised somebody’s post. 1. I’m putting it on here because this is the thread we all flock to. 2. Mods if you’re going to remove posts, at least have the courtesy to explain why, even by PM. 3. It is now blatantly obvious we need more moderators, I prop...

An argument for a split buy IMHO.
There’s wide talk now of a split buy, with the B model at around 70-90 airframes and the rest made up of the A model.
