Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
I thought CSG21 was supposed to be a fully “sovereign” deployment with only UK assets? I didn't think it was ever marketed as that? AFAIK we were always having international escorts and USMC participation. 2023/2024 will be the true sovereign effort. Put together a task group with 24 UK jets on boa...

Re: Brexit - The UK's EU Referendum & Withdrawal
First of all I'm always a bit sceptical of what the press says. However on a potential UK-EU deal The Times has just reported: UK and EU on brink of getting Brexit deal done ..... The draft agreement is understood to run to more than 1,000 pages and covers arrangements for trade, security and fishi...

The Type 32 frigate has been split from this topic as it seems to be more than just a Type 31 derivative. This topic is now solely focused on the Type 31.

Type 32 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]
A topic dedicated to the Type 32 since its a different ship to the Type 31. Comments from the Deputy CDS today: “Type 32 is the name give to follow on capability from Type 31. RBSL website states the LEP Challengers will be known as Challenger 3. Not seen any British Army or government sources to suggest that’s what it’s name will be in service but it seems to be what RBSL is going with.

Re: Type 31 & Type 32 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]
Watching Boris at PMQ's, I think he only mentioned the Type 32 in the context of his "shipbuilding renaissance" and said the RN would have a fleet of 8 Type 26 and 5 Type 31. I don't remember there being any mention of the 32 in RN service. Seems more like an export derivative of a design ...

Re: Type 31 & Type 32 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]
Along with today's announcement , the Defence Secretary stated the government was committed to building "the next generation of frigates, the Type 32" . It seems to be the belief that these are just "export versions" of the Type 31, so I've added Type 32 to the topic title. Free...
