Re: Scimitar Class Fast Patrol Vessels (RN)

Actually that is not true. The 7.62 SAP round +/- tracer has similar range and a higher rate of fire. If you combine with the minigun then the chances of a first burst hit significantly improve especially if you factor in moving target and moving firing platform. The US army did several studies on t...

Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)

Doesnt matter either way if it detonates. The thermobaric effect would be catastrophic unless you have Krupps cemented steel. Even then most modern ASM have a binary shaped charge.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Pipes leak!! The UK seems very good at washing it's dirty laundry in public and navel gazing. Most other nations don't tend to do this- we like to make ourselves look bad to prove a political point. Looking at allies issues then QEC have been a roaring success: CdG, GRF, LCS, F125, Navantia FF, Adel...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

All launchers would have to be on the islands, the throw height of the gas piston is 30m. Either that or you would have to have the CMS programmed for separate engagement arcs for each launcher. TBH RAM and the 30mm mounts fitted with Martlet might be a better option.

This time around the carriers would host the F35 in a Herrick style operation. Far more secure than a fixed desert airbase.

FFS, we dont know! Currently there are people dying globally in numbers we haven't seen since WW2. Simply put this is a global paradigm. Wasting electrons on endless debate is doing fuck all except depressing people. How about you go and do something useful. Fact : Covid-19 is a global emergency Fac...

Re: The future form of the Army

Strike could be fixed if we commit to a larger number of Ares fitted with 12 pack of Brimstone and fitting the already developed twin Javelin ER ATGM launcher to the Ajax. Fitting the CT40 and the same to some of the Boxers and using a 120mm SP mortar platform would provide the requisite firepower. ...

Futures names to include 'The Red Beastie', 'The Mosset', 'Joannas', 'The Thunderton' in no particular order other than the last must be Jo's (everyone eventually ends up there if for no other reason than a Good bar fight). Well the crews are either retarded in the metaphorical sense or have blind faith in their gear!!! If they are in the cabs then who unstraps the mountings under fire. Also no Airedale would allow engine start up in the plane. I saw the YouTube video last year and thought it was a tad staged. Re: Army 2020 Refine

Russian airborne units (they have 2 constituted currently) are divisional sized airmobile units. The key is in the term airmobile. The ORBAT is set up to deliver shock units in Btn size to seize and hold a dropzone and exploit a breakthrough with air-dropable armour. The initial units use light vehi...

Re: The future form of the Army

With limited tank resources we would be better forming an armoured division that has 4 x t56 btn each with a mechanised infantry company, a independent cavalry company (with ATGM 40mm turrets) on AJAX. This would be supported in the field with 1-2 AAC Wilcat/Apache sqn, close support Arty battery (A...

Re: FV4034 Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank (British Army)

ACC i was referring to the opposition with regard to degradation of fire support using OTH ATGM. The only advantage of facing up to heavy units with a strong WarPac based doctrine is that they rely very heavily on artillery and not CAS. Disrupt the close support elements and you can induce a wobble ...

Re: FV4034 Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank (British Army)

There is no way we can match/overmatch the Russian or Chinese orbat. They have brigade sized artillery units supporting the old Soviet style 2 Mech Brgd divisions with an independent tank regiment of 2 battalions and a cavalry screen. That is the entire British armoured force there. The Russians hav...
