Re: Eurofighter Typhoon (RAF)
And many answers. Personally I would say call it what you wish (unless you are crab air) lol. That said the pathfinder sqn in WW2 were serious troops.

Needs a quad javelin/HVM launcher and you have your close overwatch capability. Control from Ares (maybe carry on back davit) and fit with a networked RWS. It might be possible to control more than 1 per vehicle as well.

Re: British Army Future Wheeled APC
Light formations need to be able to move rapidly and then bring weight of fire followed by controlled disengagement. Yes, airborne forces in particular have strategic level entry mobility but then are limited by helo support or the Mk1 foot. Rate of fire is more important and to do this you need lot...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
Depends on water tracts, littoral noise and accoustic interface, etc. Even if you can hear you cant estimate range, bearing, or even time of inception. If you are the emitter the original point of reference and timing mean you can get more information than anyone listening. It is not like ESM but mo...

Give Carter a chance, He has quite a lot of combat time and has made himself quite unpopular with the bean counters which is a major win in my books.

Not sure where to post this so move it if necessary mods. The youtube video on Kinzhal shows the Putin speech footage. The video of the terminal attack at 00:31-36 is in real time. No way is that hypersonic so it is another weapon possibly the KSH31 missile? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJ0YCMLq2UI

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
It would appear that the hidden safety and design features may make this the most survivable and all weather operable Western carrier yet. STORVL ops have a wider weather tolerance than CATOBAR or STOBAR anyway. As an aside, does anyone have any data on that Kinzhal missile. Mach 10 hyperglide seems...

Re: Typhoon
A spear3 storm will give you a mission kill. The original AsUW alpha strike was a below horizon lob attack of airburst 1000lb bombs by the Buccs. The Soviet era and even modern Sino/Russian designs have lots of exposed rotating array in high places, take them and the ship is blind.

Re: British Army Future Wheeled APC
I think in reality Afghanistan was our Vietnam. What we need to do now is have a long hard look at our defence budget, have clear political directives with respect to intervention, readiness, and foreign policy (easier than you might think), and be pragmatic about the force structure. I agree with J...

Ron, as always you cant resist sniping. Firstly, Aviation week is not available to many of us not being in the industry and having other priorities. HOWEVER, it does not show up in the logged articles on the host website despite the aforementioned issue being listed. Also, I redirect you to my previ...

Re: Boeing P-8A Poseidon (Future Maritime Patrol Aircraft) (RAF)
Ron, I have had the great privelege of spending several years in the USA as a child embedded within the USN and later in DC. In addition I have been on more than a few ops with US personnel in my time in green. I have the highest regard for the US and especially it's military; several of my closest ...

I agree but they levy a very heavy price every time. I would add whilst they are generally supportive they are invaraibly late and make terrible tea. However, I for one am very glad they are on our side!!!

Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)
Thanks Dave, didnt reference these because they dont have specific UK content. As Caribean says, the split buy might be the initiator for this. AFAIK this was off the table except as a FOAS component way in the future and as a Typhoon replacement. I guess they could defer a portion of the 138 but un...

Unsurprisingly I cant find it either. Using a Google search and Advanced search the last post on F35 is 17/09/17 with respect to flight trials. I used the Boolean "Aviation Weekly"AND "UK F35B" which got 126 results. Given the recent announcements I cant see how they could revers...

Re: Ground Based Air Defence
Other way around, the terrain in Falklands makes it nearly impossible to use the full engagement range unless you site all the batteries on West Falkland on the coast. It really is a hellish place to operate anything so point defence of key terrain/sites with GBAD and robust fast jet defence is the ...
