Re: Section infantry weapons

Now with regard to what was said about a "massive uplift in GPMG" at Catterick Infantry Training Centre, this would suggest that although the GPMG is currently held at platoon level, provision is being made to deploy GPMG in section as an expedient where and when it is needed. Thoughts pl...

Re: Section infantry weapons

F****ng A! 1x GPMG, 1x Sharpshooter, 2x UGL, and 4 x L85A3 per section with a C G would be great.

Re: Boeing E-3D Sentry AEW.1 (AWACS) (RAF)

The problem with the wing boxes was they were hand made and therefore each was different. This does not do well with CAM wings! There were cracks but they were linked to the wing spar attachment following 30 years of low level ops. They were not the issue. As early as 1995 the engineers at Kinloss t...

Re: Boeing E-3D Sentry AEW.1 (AWACS) (RAF)

FFS, read the previous posts on this. MRA4 was sold by BAe as the low risk option to MoD due to the ITA concerns raised by the US with respect to sonar (UK designed but used by USN) and the extensive changes to the 319 proposed NOT 320 (although it makes little difference). The 320 started appearing...

Re: British Army Future Wheeled APC

RS just to be clear, I especially understand the need for the right kit. I lost friends because of it. What we need is the bloody vehicles, now, and not another fucking arse fest competition. As for Strike, the new term is configurable brigade elements. They currently are 3800 men short of the previ...

Re: British Army Future Wheeled APC

They are not being bought as IFV or recce variants. They never were. They are modular and they can be retrofitted later but we need the actual vehicles first. The Strike brigade concept is been mooted as a casualty of the review with a general shake up based on preformed battlegroups and brigades- i...

Re: Boeing P-8A Poseidon (Future Maritime Patrol Aircraft) (RAF)

DS is right. The RAF was to be the lead customer of the P7. When it was cancelled by the USN BAe thn offered 2 designs: a coalition effort based on the A319 and the Nimrod 2000 as the sole bidder. Other bids were the Be200, P3 upgrade, Atlantique 2+, and the A235. BAe was far from philanthropic and ...

Re: Boeing P-8A Poseidon (Future Maritime Patrol Aircraft) (RAF)

They could only assemble a maximum of 14. The wing box alignment was an absolute bitch. Of the original 4 airframes sent for the prototype s only 1 was usable and a further 3 had to be pulled off the line.

Re: Vanguard Class Nuclear Ballistic Missile Submarine (SSBN) (RN)

Having a SSBN?GN so close to the coast is a bad idea. Ok Tactom has a 1200 mile range (the figure that seems to get kicked around in the US forums) but if you really want to reach out and touch the deep strike targets that means your sub has to be in shallower inshore waters (ie at the continental s...
