Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
How would that cost if built in british yard ? Wonder how much all the desirable sensors & weopons would cost....1/2 to 2/3 of the cost of a T26 Still think there is a need for small number of cheaper ships ( or more investment ) for all the tasks that are demanded of the RN So this is my think...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
Given the first T31 is being launched this year, unless I’ve missed it there seems a lack of recent information on what it will have out of the box, does anyone have any links? All the discussion seems to be based on what people want it to be rather than what it is - how many CAMM will it have (all...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
T26 shall carry two ARCIMS 11m USV…. Hence the reason for 4x boats houses on the original T31 design. Now that the T31 is to be quite substantially upgraded with Mk41 it’s becoming a higher value target especially if all VLS cells are filled with more than fresh air, what’s the plan for T31? Ignore...

Re: General UK Defence Discussion
No great surprise unfortunately, the writing has been on the wall for several years. I'm not sure if it's started to bottom out yet. The government seem quite comfortable with what's happening. Not just the Government but Westminster as a hole they are all still in peace time thinking however with ...

Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)
I like the Protector class layout and this is what I would be looking for a 100 by 16 meter ship with the same layout allowing for a bigger flight deck and rear working deck could be a very nice MHPC

I would say a buy of say 6 to 8 Sea Lancer could be a good thing they could be deployed across the RB1 , RB2 & T-31 classes Having all 5 T-31's capable of deploying SL would be useful Even a RB1 pulling a Sea Lancer in the the North Sea or Baltic would give Russian Sub commanders another thing t...

But what is the cost and capability different's in these systems if I remember rightly we came up with a cost of 30 million a pop for CAPTAS 4 C what could Sea Lancer 2nd Gen bring to the table and what is the cost

ULTRA 20-ft container ASW system. I think he is talking about Sea Lancer and its 2nd-Gen. As it is "single tow", it is very simple. May be not as capable as CAPTAS-4 (independent tow), but handling-system simplicity will be essential in "man-power limited" navy. For example, I t...

It isn't an obsession it is realty five are on order to replace the five T23 GP. The T31 isn't mediocre it provides a platform that is inherently easy to maintain, requires lower crewing and provides great range and capability cost effectively. It can scale from a more than competent light frigate ...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
OPV+ doesn't exist. Sorry, why are you saying this? They absolutely do and can list of a number of classes if you care. However, should the RN prioritise them and what they could do is all up for debate. Personally, I think given the broader priorities they aren’t needed, and the B2 Rivers with a r...

If the requirement is to face Russia alone then we are all good apart from needing say 15 corvettes as said the Russian Atlantic fleet has 12 escorts + 30 Corvettes and 13 SSNs + 6 SSKs The RB2's are doing a good job and if given the upgrade I have put forward could do that job even better but they ...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
What I am saying is that, OPV+ is OPV+, will not add any mass on war fighting assets. If RN want more OPV immediately, it is easy: lease RNZN Otago-class OPVs (now both are in reserve ( because of lack of crew )) for 2-3 years. We know there are a few Irish OPVs also, waiting for their crew . In sh...

More T31 "as is", is what you are saying, I felt. No corvette nor OPV+. Any warship with so-so AAW and "57mm and 40mm" guns and a helicopter hangar is very similar to T31, and introducing new design will not be justified, I think. Why are people obsessed with replacing OPVs that...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
I think the Holland would be quite expensive if built today it was about 120m euros with the hull built in Romania in 2007. But also quite capable. I would disagree that it wasn’t what some are proposing as the opv+ because tempest spec was “I think we should be able to build a 105 to 110 by 16 met...
