Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicle Variants (British Army)
If the Army cancels Warrior CSP, switches Boxer to the IFV role, and uses Ajax for recce + firepower (alongside MBTs), you have a fairly decent start on a solid conventional armoured brigade, especially if you rebuild your railway capability and buy a couple hundred extra HETs to make the whole thi...

Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicle Variants (British Army)
It did have one before, but then the program was cut, many of its variants cut, and then the eventual formation it was supposed to fit into completely changed after the point at which it had already built steam.. I think at the point that it was clear that the requirements called for something the ...

Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicle Variants (British Army)
What exactly are they for? Rushing around with dash and elan What will they do? Take up large chunks of equipment budget, rush around with dash and elan, burn nicely. Cant fight tanks, but can't self deploy. It can fight tanks, but it’s likely to lose. It can self deploy, but it’ll be hard work and...

Re: Royal Artillery/Royal Horse Artillery future developments
In the meantime the Army should buy 50 or so Nemo 120mm Mortar Systems to integrate into Boxer Mission Modules to give the Mechanised Battalions some sort of credible indirect fire support, giving each Battalion a Section of eight with a number lest over for training etc.. It's one of those occasio...

How many years would you really get out of CR2 upgrade vs Brand new M1/Leo2? What would the availability be in practice? An orphan product powered by an engine developed by Leyland in the 1950s? I don’t know, but it’s a pointless question because you can’t have a brand new M1 or Leopard 2. They are...

Point is they had a shot, in fact multiple shots and they blew it. FRES TRCER AJAX etc. They could have had VBCI or CV90 of the shelf and instead they decided to p**s 6 billion up against a powerpoint presentation. At least RN and RAF know what they want. I’m not saying army shouldn’t get tanks IFV...

Re: FV4034 Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank (British Army)
I am pretty convinced this is the usual "apocalyptic cuts leaks" crap we always see that always gets proven wrong, but I am stunned by the amount of people who seem to be arguing for cuts. I sometimes wonder if its something to do with tanks (used properly) being a workmanlike, efficient,...

Re: Integrated Review (previously SDSR 2020)
Because that would be the cheap option compared to the Challenger Upgrade? May work out that way, standard NATO ammunition, can be air freighted in a A400 or C17. Would give some protection to the Boxer Fleet and remaining AJAX in the Strike Brigade. Otherwise I do not see the point of the AJAX if ...

It is strange to question the role of tanks when there are multilpe active warzones in the world right now proving the current need for them. Out of interest, which active warzones are currently seeing active use of tanks? Syria is the obvious one. Yemen another. Ukraine has quieted down a bit of l...

How much money would have been saved if we had proceeded with the FRES UV programme I wonder? Probably not so much as you might think. The winner of the “trials of truth” wasn’t announced until mid-2008 and the first deliveries for Piranha 5 (which is essentially what the winner ended up being) pos...

Apparently PHE were simply running through the list of people that had previously tested positive, on a daily basis, then checking to see if they were still alive. Anyone who had died was then counted as a CV-19 death, regardless of how long ago the positive test was made, or the actual cause of de...
