Re: UK Politics - General News & Discussion

Apparently Conservative Home have Ben Wallace as favourite to succeed and Penny Mordaunt as second favourite, followed by Liz Truss and Tim Tugendhat. What's the betting the Westminster clique ignore the grassroots? Hard to see how this happens. There are sufficient numbers of pro-Brexit, anti-EU, ...

Re: UK Politics - General News & Discussion

The next leader needs to win over the Tory membership, which means they need to to pro-Brexit, anti-alignment, pro-NI bill/anti-NIP and far less green/net Zero. For the next year or two, at least until the next GE, we will actually have a Conservative Government. I'm not sure the pro-EU, anti-Brexit...

Re: F-35B Lightning (RAF & RN)

So we'll have 47 plus 26 in total, minus the 3 experimental airframes equals 70. Enough for 3 frontline squardons, but probably not 4... Anyone know what the breakdown will be? 1st squadron is joint RAF/FAA, the 2nd is RAF (I believe?), will the 3rd be FAA? Would be nice to have at least 1 squadron ...

Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]

21 day endurance though, that's the trade off... Not really an issue for Indonesia. They just want these to patrol the multitude of Islands that make up their territory. They won't be venturing much further than that in their lifetime. Yes, indeed, just highlighting the different requirements than ...

Re: Brexit - The UK's EU Referendum & Withdrawal

Where this becomes problematic is that it's really easy to make this an ugly choice to advocate, given the campaign will run precisely as follows: Q - "You want us to rejoin the Single Market to ease trade disruption, right?" A - "Yes" Q - "Without the rebate? A - "Yes...

Re: Geopolitics and the global economy

The integrity of the UK and peace in one of it's constituent parts is far more important than what the US and EU might say or do, if they were to turn against" us. It's an existential issue Lol, pull out the nukes I guess /s No, the concerns of unionists will be treated with parity, as it shou...

Re: The war in Ukraine

"All I can say you can’t be more proud how the U.K. and those we have sent have stepped up in support not only of Ukraine but of the Eastern European states we have stood by. It’s a stain on the political elite across all the west that Ukraine has had to endure this at all" Can't disagree ...

Re: The war in Ukraine

Sholtz has been dealt a very poor hand. Nothing he can do about Merkel and Von Der Leyen's many failures. He has, however, made some partial corrections for those failings - substantive elevations of defence spending and announcements to reduce dependence on Russian oil and gas, for example. Even w...

Re: The war in Ukraine

The Germans haven't been that bad really. Just really bad PR and speaking. Factually, no one has given Western MBT's or IFV's, an no one sends stuff ahead of the USA. The German army is broken completely, not Scholz fault, but Merkel. He's under a huge amount of economic pressure over gas, also not...

Re: The war in Ukraine

Germany are apparently already on the case: https://twitter.com/marceldirsus/status/1531957916420517888?cxt=HHwWgMC9sffmzcIqAAAA Significantly, they will also be sending the surface to air variant of the IRIS-T. That would mark a step change in capability and range. The German government has been p...
