Re: Type 26 Frigate (City Class) (RN) [News Only]

There is space on the UK T-26 for canister launched ASM. Could you point to where you heard this. As far as I am aware the t26 is VLS only for ASM. Would love to be proven wrong. I hope Australia and Canada pick the type 26, it would be a big boom for the UK ship building industry that has had a ho...

Defence committee meeting 14th Nov 2017 -: http://parliamentlive.tv/Event/Index/b8c81008-d7f1-4972-8157-f29cdaa09420 I do feel bad for the current chiefs. The amount of money the treasury has is fixed. Transferring trident out of the MOD's allocation does not generate extra money to spend on defense. Surely if the MOD does not have to budget for it then they can use the funds they would have used for other purposes? Not sure how this is not the case ...

The upgraded VBCI being offered fixes specifically those issues as upgrades. That's what they'll be referring to. Would that be VBCI 2? They showed a prototype with a 40mm turret, two anti-tank missles tubes and a remote 7.62. Can have extra armour bolted on if needed. https://thaimilitaryandasianr...

In the future, with one carrier group deployed with 2 T45s and 2 T26, the second carrier group at 20-30 days notice to deploy (with 2 T45s and 2 T26), and another T26 at very high readiness to support CASD, how many of the remaining 2 T45s and 3 T26s do you think will also be out at sea? You also n...

It would also have the added value of offering currently lacking hope for the future and through a return to a more traditional but still relevant and exciting role for the Royal Marines? Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Can anyone actually point to any "Current" threat that would require us to fire a Harpoon? There are plenty of threats that could pop up anywhere requiring a heavy anti-ship missile. Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. Still it is getting dated and is quickly ...

If it is using decoys or weapons systems to overcome the seekers or destroy the missile then they are expendable and/or over whelm-able with volume Any ship can be overwhelmed by volume, that is kind of the point of saturation attacks. That is why you need better defenses and more missiles than the...

I don't recall seeing anything about ASRAAM being replaced by anything other than a new build ASRAAM with updated components. Given ASRAAM is very similar to CAMM anyway, I guess. Nothing concrete, but I read that given how similar CAMM is to ASRAMM, that it could easily be implemented in the futur...

If there are any earlier indications, it currently appears more likely a UK carrier group would be operating in support of a US amphibious group, rather than operating alongside a US carrier group. Fair point. That is a more likely scenario. The US launch marines from their LHD with limited air sup...

Any enemy faces big challenges attempting to counter a carrier moving to within 800km The combat radius and maximum range of the aircraft are 833km and 1,667km respectively. This is on internal fuel alone. When we eventually develop external fuel tanks, this range will be increased significantly. A...

There is no single missile in service that meets the RN's requirements for a missiles that can be launched from a deck canister, and the MK41 VLS. LRASM can. It has been fired from an angled topside canister. It is designed to meet the US's need to put ASM on pretty much everything. It would be gre...

T-26 Cruiser Maybe getting close to a destroyer, but certainly not a cruiser. I do agree with what you are saying, however it still leaves us with some pretty big gaps in the meantime until those upgrades get implemented. The RN moto is gap and pray we don't need it, but if we need it we are screwed.
