Re: Falkland Islands (British Overseas Territory)
This may be useful for this debate. https://youtu.be/wStNLl825bQ Copied from Previous thread to Falklands Islands. So some points to note. The RAF currently have 4 older Typhoons based at Port Stanley. This simulation modelled that a full squadron of 12 newer Typhoons were sent out to Falklands, cr...

Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)
We have far far far more than bare minimum defence spending our defence budget is huge. It dwarfs just about every other country in the world bar a handful. How does it look if you remove the CASD and pensions? but for the nato nations they a criteria for it and both the above are included in that ...

Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)
Considering that Argentina was never weaker, I think that River-class as FIGS is quite enough. And, with the Mount Pleasant runway, the Falklands could be signifcantly reinforced with both troops and aircraft within 24 hours. Sufficient to be problematic for any potential invasion force that they a...

Re: Type 83 Destroyer (RN) [News Only]
From my perspective, with the potential to quad pack all (CAMM family) AAW missiles bar those for BMD, and take advantage of directed energy systems, we can afford to think differently but hopefully not try to be too revolutionary. Directed energy weapons - lasers, don't understand all the hype for...

Not the first rumour I've seen but its looking increasingly like South Korea will abandon plans for an aircraft carrier. https://twitter.com/nknewsorg/status/1533811160117661696?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet IMHO, they don't need an aircraft carrier ( except for competition ...

When the CATOBAR conversion was being looked at weren't they only going to convert one & sell of the other ? I was kinda hoping they would convert one for CATOBAR ( Inc Hawkeye's ) then just have the other as it is now & use as a backup, but it's good they are Xploring the options now that ...

Re: French Armed Forces
I note that much like the CDG (R91), there is a paucity of Non “Operationally restrictive Spots”. I counted just 12! A wonderful design indeed ??? I don’t think. The design needs a third Deck-Edge “Lift” as well (Port side, Aft), if further operational restrictions are to be avoided. Th...

I agree but for a liberal democracy with personal freedom, enabling govts of other countries to undermine those values is somewhat inappropriate/unethical/completely unacceptable. But BAE and Rolls are already there helping them with their next gen fighter.no one blocked that Turkey are alot closer...

Re: Eurofighter Typhoon (RAF)
In fairness Turkey generally (and Erdogan personally) would have pretty good grounds for saying that it is the rest of NATO who have been a poor ally to them in recent years rather than they having been a poor NATO ally. 1. We enlisted the YPG as an ally to fight ISIS despite knowing full well they...

Turkey reportedly back in the frame...again...take with a pinch of salt... Type 23 purchase was reported elsewhere the other day (for 1 frigate initially). This could of course be meant to put pressure on the US to provide the F-16...which the US is wisely using as leverage over Sweden and Finlands...

13 refurbs and three new-build. Most of refurb work to be done in Canada. New-builds from Yeovil will keep the line staggering on for a short while. There is allegedly some other countries close to signing on the dotted line for Merlin and Wildcat.. Suicidal policy of HMG- to allow closing of that ...

IMHO, they should just join Type 212CD consortium and that's it. If it's good enough for Norway and Germany, it should be good enough for Netherlands too.
