Re: Future UK Maritime Patrol Options
All depends on whose RTS they are operated on and certified by. Also why we have IOC and FOC. If we wanted we could have some capability very soon. But you know best mate, you've proved your Air knowledge again and again.

Re: Future UK Maritime Patrol Options
No need to read too much into the extension. It happened to ensure we maintained the people should the decision to regenerate MPA was positive. If its a green light they won't be in those posts for three years, they'll be wherever the UK fleet is. Equally if we don't MPA, they'll find themselves bac...

Re: Typhoon
Indeed, but tornado is here for a while yet, and those people don't become competent on typhoon overnight. Then add an MPA to that mix and it's clear there isn't enough manpower. It has always been my assumption that any MPA force build-up would eventually absorb the manpower margin currently alloc...

Re: Typhoon
I think it's worth mentioning that even though the decision might or might not of already been made regarding the tranche 1 typhoons , we are talking years before this would be put into operation , it's not going to happen overnight , and I'm sure a plan of action would be put into place in that ti...

Re: Typhoon
Pilots? Techies? Weapons? Spares? Basing? Already there. Really? So wheres the manning going to come from for the extra Sqns? Again, already there. Just need to reverse the decision to axe those resources. The RAF could certainly benefit from some stability, and a nice smooth steady transition over...

Re: Typhoon
No it isn't. But it is very much the b@stard son at the minute. Everyone knows it's on borrowed time and is only around since typhoon hasn't had enough money invested to sort it's A2G capabilities. TGRF morale is low.marktigger wrote:and tornado GR4 is a multirole aircraft that fits that model?

Re: Typhoon
shark bait I agree maybe forming AD only squadron or 2 to provide UKQRA with the tranche 1's but thats a slight step back. Probably very welcome in some quarters in the Airforce who still hanker for the days of a fighter, strike, maritime, bomber and transport command with lots of staff non jobs. R...

Re: Typhoon
GR4 might get a small extension, I don't genuinely know. But it can do a fair bit that typhoon can't or doesn't yet have the numbers to do.
However it won't be a long term solution as it is getting on and the huge elephant in the room of the lack of WSOs the longer it survives.

Re: Typhoon
I have read that the RAF no longer uses dumb bombs but whether they still have any in store I don't know. No dumb bomb capability. Do the stlll have CVR7 or is that exclusive to the Apache now? Not in RAF service. Taking out runways with expensive PG weapons doesn't sound sensible to me Easiest way...

What do you mean likely? It is already happening.
All RAF Techinical trades have had their PVR waiting time upped to 12 months from 6 for example.

Retaining any PWIIs isn't going to happen.
It's not just the head (which is totally different to a IV), but we have no 1000lb bombs (which no-one manufactures anymore), no more AFGs and no more fuses.

Ignoring the fact that vis ID plays a significant part in some, but by no means all QRA, and bearing in mind that QRA won't always be done in the UK, surely the jets you have doing QRA should be meteor capable?
