Haven't the Tranche 1's mostly been cannibalised? Or am I getting confused with the 2 seater Tranche 1's?

Would say better late than never, but isn't it too late, now? Won't they already have had (and still have for some time until after they've appealed and sold up etc) the opportunity to take/copy/document the tech/info/data/IP etc....?

Re: Future Solid Support Ship
Good, if the majority of the work does indeed take place in the UK...we've seen these sorts of agreements before and then for various reasons much of the work gets moved elsewhere. The contracts should be water tight to ensure the UK workshare, with strict penalties for deviations

Contract placed for the next batch of five. https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/order-placed-for-five-more-type-26-frigates-on-the-clyde/ Excellent news and congratulations on breaking the story. I wonder how much lower BAE could go than £840m, if given an additional order. Nice thought, but I'm more c...

I do love how selective quoting of a selective economic model projection have ingrained a media narrative of an illusory black hole to ensure a political agenda is put in place. Bingo. There was likely no black hole, or one much much smaller. With enhanced growth to GDP (as per some of the more sen...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
The biggest threat from Russia is its sub surface force, which is on par with the west,, and the counter to which are P8s, SSNs and yes super quiet frigates designed specifically to hunt submarines. In the future I’m sure XLUUVs etc will have a role. A noisy frigate, not designed for ASW, using mod...

Great, but I was more checking about how difficult it will be landing with the deck moving aboutTimmymagic wrote: ↑08 Aug 2022, 15:41With wind over the deck and steaming at a decent rate its going to come in like a Swordfish...pretty much hovering.

I do wonder which (if any) of the two remaining candidates would be best for UK Defence e.g. by increased defence spending to counter the higher threat level post Russian invasion of Ukraine. I fear that Rishi Sunak will be too focussed on balancing the Budget and wonder (or more accurately HOPE) t...

Don't think he would have had a realistic shot of it. Great Secretary of defence, but don't think the party would have confidence in him winning a GE.

Rumours are (for whatever they're worth) that Raab and Morduant aren't going to run, which is surprising. I'm not advocating Patel or Brawerman Interesting: Raab is head-over-shoulders with Patel. And Morduant is head over shoulders with Brawerman ... which leaves the only one to breathe, thorough ...

A surprise to everyone: I actually like Boris! But serial lies cannot be a substitute to policy/ policies. - though, in his speech (setting out 'legacy') there were things that others, most likely, would not have had the balls to dictate... start with the extra £24 bn Indeed that is a surprise. He ...

Conservative Home have Ben Wallace as favourite to succeed and Penny Mordaunt as second favourite, followed by Liz Truss and Tim Tugendhat. If Boris wants it (and he has announced it, and he will be there in 12 months, and many years beyond), it will happen. And, it will be HMS or RFA, not HMY... HMS Shitshow. You've clearly realised that it is nothing more than a one-man vanity project. Will he be here in 12 months? Let's see. And doe...

Re: UK Politics - General News & Discussion
Don't be so sure, people voted for Boris because he was patriotic and positive, mainly. The next PM will have to be patriotic, Pro-union (I.e. anti SNP and anti-NIP) anti-woke and anti-net zero to win the working class Purple wall (essential to win the GE). Starmer is none of those things, he can on...
