Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]
Agree 100%. Should be a no brainier. Normally I'd agree, but there may be a technical issue...from the EDR Magazine article... "The platform data link terminal (PDLT) comes from the adaption for shipborne operations by MBDA Italia of the CAMM ER land-based programme solution developed by the F...

This is interesting...(sorry don't have full article). Extract from Flight Global. "Leonardo Helicopters’ UK operation has begun initial design work on a clean-sheet 3t-class unmanned rotorcraft which could be flying by 2024." Pure speculation... but Leonardo bought Swiss helicopter start...

You can put whatever information you like, same with AIS spoofing, happens all the time with US miitary aircraft, although more usually they don't broadcast details on aircraft typeArmChairCivvy wrote:Have they borrowed responders. for the Europe part of the world tour?

Re: F-35B Lightning (RAF & RN)
Anybody knows the reason for Marine F-35 emergency landing? Why didn't he return to the QE? Doubt we'll find out. Worth noting that the tyre may not have been the reason why...may have burst because of another issue (higher landing speed than usual, higher sink rate etc.). No need to risk a return ...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
FYI - Posted in the F-35 thread.
A USMC F-35B has had to make an emergency landing on Ibiza. Aircraft has been photographed with a flat left rear tyre, not clear if this was the cause of the emergency however.

USMC F-35B from HMS Queen Elizabeth had to make an emergency landing on Ibiza. It was showing in ADS-B as a Royal Netherlands Air Force F-35A on its approach... Left tyre appears to be flat but its not clear if this was the cause of the emergency or due to a rough landing due to other factors. https...

Re: Her Majesty's Yacht Britannia (1954-1997) (ex RN)
So HMS instead of HMY. Will they try the "she could be a useful hospital ship in a conflict" thing next?! To be fair everyone always knew that the hospital ship role was a load of nonsense, it was just a cover for its real role as a mobile seat of government in the event of WW3 (hence the...

Re: Her Majesty's Yacht Britannia (1954-1997) (ex RN)
Waste of money, IMHO. Better buy 2-3 more F-35s. Or even ASMs for escorts. Politically this is stupid. There is literally no upside. Anyone who actually wants a Royal Yacht built is already voting Conservative (and there aren't many out there who really want this). It won't attract any new votes an...

Howabout the 'corvettes' for Brunei? The dimensions had been adjusted for the local crewmen's height... but there were no 'local' crewmen to be found. The Bung Tomo Class were an even better deal...would have been ideal for the Gulf or Far East taskings that we're looking at now. But a larger crew ...

Seen this below that tweet. "Mbda’s maritime launch system for sea ceptor is shorter than that for camm er, so installing them on types 26/31/32 will impact on what is currently below the launcher" If they are resuing bits and bobs from the type 23 for the 31's camm er might not be possib...

Thinking of our late friend desertswo who would have been 65 today. I’m sure he would have enjoyed seeing and discussing the recent happenings with the carriers. He would have loved this. Very unlikely. Why bother going to the effort of prepping and testing the munitions in the UK, having the personnel and equipment to load them here, then not bothering and leaving it to more ad hoc and costly arrangements elsewhere.andrew98 wrote:Any chance they could fit them in Bahrain on the way out?

Don't forget the RN has 11 sets of 2087. 3 additional sets have been purchased for the first 3 T26. Otherwise they'd have had to cannibalise the 8 x T23 ASW's whilst they were still in service. Sometime the jumps, from clicking on a notification are random. And ended up with this old one. - when th...

Re: Future Solid Support Ship
What is interesting is that the commitment to three FSSS must be linked to the commitment to have two CVF deployed. That is surely linked to the to the need to go beyond 48 F35B (which would allow 24 normally on the single deployed CVF) to 60-80 which would allow two CVFs with 24 each? Don't forget...

And a pretty good (and accurate) shot at naming them. USS The Sullivans appears to be the ship in the middle.
