Re: Tide Class Tankers (MARS) (RFA)
スクリーンショット 2018-03-01 0.48.09.png Looks like 14 points. If true, 25.2 m. I agree it is wide. But the 2nd-floor "balcony" looks like prepared for Merlin. So, maybe 1 Merline? Not sure.... I would still vote for two Merlin side by side - if it is only one with a hanger that big its a...

Re: Tide Class Tankers (MARS) (RFA)
If there is one thing to criticise, it is how the double funnels restrict the size of the hangar. In the shots from behind, when the tanker and the frigate are in alignment one can see that both have exactly the same hangar. I guess with tie-downs at least one more sizeable helo can be ferried. Loo...

Thanks benny14 for those images of Type 26. May I ask where they came from? A BAE video on the type 26 from about 6 months ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HC9jqRmBifk&t=96s A good spot - first time I have seen a graphic of a Merlin in the mission bay. Implies you could carry two in the ASW...

Re: Multi Role Vehicle – Protected - MRV(P)
The general consensus appears to be that MRV(P) group 2 seems to be a choice between GD's Eagle and Thales' Bushmaster. Does anyone know what proportion of the content, if any, from each is UK built? I also wonder if it might make (financial) sense to award the contract to GD for a UK build to offs...

Re: Multi Role Vehicle – Protected - MRV(P)
It is an obligation because since September 2016, the French artillery has fired more than 10,000 shells in Iraq. The over-use of the 77 Caesars of the army results in 27 guns being too worn out to be re-used before heavy maintenance operations. Really ? I never knew that, the French have gunners o...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
CAMM VLS cell dimensions are governed by the missile width over its fins and not the diameter of the missile body. In other words, the cell diagonal width has to be such that the fin tip to fin tip distance will fit. Both CAMM and CAMM-ER have the same fin tip to fin tip dimension (remembering that...

With 6 we should be able to sustain 2 at sea, which is about the correct amount. For carrier maybe but what about defending our territories, merchant shipping, supplies and replacing lost assets. I believe we probably already don't have enough AAD assets for the seas, and I haven't even thought abo...

We could put them in the same place as in the Aussie design, maybe a little further aft as we have the additional 24 CAMM cells directly aft of the funnel?Ron5 wrote:Hangar roof.
In the old days, C2 was a so-so large escort. C3 carries 57mm gun, CAMM, and MCM mission bay. You can see this is exactly the current T31e is . And, they say it cost £250M ave. This is my standpoint. To save the RN, MHC must be kept more simple, I think.
Must say I really have to la...

Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicle Variants (Army)
I am not convinced that an Ajax with its turret enters in an A400M. In France when we tried to get a VBCI into an A400M, it had difficulty to get in. We have a divergence of point of view, it's not serious ;) It's designed to fit in it. They've already shown Ares can fit, and has plenty of headroom...

From the Save the Royal Navy website. I've not found them to be super accurate but here it is sprinkled with the usual anti-Bae propaganda (serving RN will no doubt be amused at the "gold plated" warships they are serving aboard). I found the most interesting items were that BMT/Babcocks ...

Size of hull does not equal cost. Cramming a lot of gubbins into a small hull does. Adding capabilities does. Similarly cost per tonne is meaningless even if you are comparing similar designs. Different countries include different things in a price. The River B2 is an up specced OPV to keep Baes fr...

The ammunition for the Mk8 mod 1 is still manufactured and it’s osd is not until the last 45 leaves service. It is not being carried fwd to the 26, but if the 31 has a 15 year life span then it’s a no brainier! Plus of course if as it would appear the Babcock/BMT team are currently in the lead stic...
