Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
I suppose the most important comparison will not be published for sometime if ever, and that is the performance comparison of a Dave operating from an America class to a QE class, once the operational data is known of course. If their is a significant difference then US politicians will know about i...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
They value the extra landing spot for helicopters on a flat deck more than the benefits of the ski jump to the small fixed wing force. The LHD/LHAs are landing ships first and foremost. If that were true, the first two Americas would have a well deck. One additional spot would see a departure every...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Excuse the daft question, but if the Ski Jump provides a benefit to F35, then why wouldn't they want Ski Jumps too?

Hopefully Audacious should be nearing sea trials soon. Looking at time line of the Astutes from first dive to Leaving for Sea trials, she should leave this month, unless there have been issues.

I was hoping for names that were also associated with the Falklands (T42's), and while the earlier Exeter and Sheffield were both involved in the Atlantic Convey campaign, Coventry's involvement is less documented, if at all. Shame, so I would like to see, Exeter, Sheffield and Plymouth.

That's a Big Plane that QE has made look VERY small. Almost enough room for them to land on Port side while others are taking off?

Hope the pilot is OK, and this does not turn out to be STOVL hardware related, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Makes sense. Can't recall anything similar on other carriers, so is it unique to QE class? saves main lift use too for more important things. Cheers.

I'm sure we have discussed this before, but what is that little lift for visible in that shot. HMWHS pops up into the islands and hanger, I didn't think it came up to such an exposed position?

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Comparison shot to follow soon hopefully. From what I can see the main difference in size between the two is in the length of the bow forward of the sponsons, making QE look a little snub nosed (beg your pardon Ma'am).

Re: Brexit - The UK's EU Referendum & Withdrawal
Contacting my MEP would be far less effective or as meaningful as contacting my MP. This highlights exactly the point I'm trying to make about sovereignty. To suggest we would not have to join the Euro is naive in the extreme. Staying on the EU ladder would not be possible without joining at some st...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
Wasn't the promise to build 13 'advanced escorts' in Scottish yards a Referendum red line. I didn't think that included the Batch 2 rivers. So how could Leanders be built in Birkenhead. What have I missed?

The second ship in line of the following escort of three, looks like a T22. Don't recognise the 1st in line and the 3rd I can't zoom in enough. Great to see.

Re: Brexit - The UK's EU Referendum & Withdrawal
No need for apologies, It wasn't you I was referring to as being patronising. Balance is a good thing. I'm just yet to hear a compelling argument to remain, that isn't simply a string of statements, or is simply an attack on leavers based on bias assumptions. It's been a little like listening to peo...

Re: Brexit - The UK's EU Referendum & Withdrawal
Someone needs to explain to me, how closer ties with EU will give us more sovereignty? Political Union of any kind, by definition, erodes this. It erodes it because decision making is not your own (as much as some believe that being in the gang somehow enables you to mould it in your image, as thoug...

Re: Brexit - The UK's EU Referendum & Withdrawal
Indeed, it is difficult to remain balanced, and while I try to understand the remainers view, I find some of their rhetoric and unwillingness to listen staggering. My family lost people in both world wars. At the Somme, on HMS Hawke and in bomber raids. I would listen to my grandad tell me about his...

Re: Brexit - The UK's EU Referendum & Withdrawal
Spin and more spin. The kind of negative drip feed we have had to endure for over two years. There is no doubt that the UK is a net contributor to the 'project' and that lies at the heart of the EU hard ball game. I didn't believe the nonsense that both campaigns spread. I chose to look at the facts...

Re: Brexit - The UK's EU Referendum & Withdrawal
Not really. It's difficult when families and friends become so split over this issue, and this debate has had a negative impact on some of my closest relationships. It's fair to say that both sides of the fence have said some pretty stupid things, but the level that some people have reduced themselv...
