Re: Directed Energy Weapons
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSQVZnU0VVc What a load of drivel. Obsesses over the public 50kW power but doesn't understand the nuances of how different lasers have different spot sizes at different ranges and conditions. Just the sort of video\article NickC would like. Technically illiterate and...

Re: The war in Ukraine
what is noticeable is that none of Kyiv's AA defences including its two Patriot batteries and presumably the SAMP/T battery delivered last June with its Aster 30 Blk 1 missiles was able shoot down the hypersonic Zircon. Is it noticeable? Have no other weapons penetrated Kyivs AA defences since ther...

S-band wave length is 7.5cm to 15 cm. What frequency ARTISAN 3D is using? Artisan is an E/F band radar 2 - 4 GHz, NATO classification, but generally known under the older IEEE nomenclature as S-band, many navies, not all e.g. SMART-L, led by USN changed from L to S-band with the SPY- 1 as the volum...

FWIW a poster's comment on Artisan caught my eye on a War Zone article " San Antonio Class Looks Very Different After Shedding Its Stealthy Masts", not very complimentary to Artisan due its high beamwidth at longer ranges. Patrick Chase 9 hours ago This seems a little misleading: Even the...

Known RAF anti-houti Operation so far: tyhoon sorties: 12 Voyager sorties: 6 External fuel pod sorties: 24 Meteor sorties: 12 ASRAAM sorties: 24 Paveway 4's despenced: 48. What would appear is that for a fully loaded Typhon a 2,000 mile radius bombing mission requires one Voyager per two Typhons, p...

I'm confused as understood from the Eurosam PR July 2021 the RN was going to update its Aster 30 Block 0 (Navy) to Block 1NT (new tech) with its new gen higher waveband Ka seeker, improved weapon controller and capable of dealing with ballistic missiles with separable warheads extending its capabili...

Re: RED SEA - Houthi attacks
CNN 1st Feb has reported a Burke destroyer USS Gravely had a close call and to use its last ditch defence system Phalanx, implies the Houthi missile penetrated Burkes missile defence system, ESSM and SM-2's (most likely with an Iranian knock-off of an old Chinese C801). A reminder that missile defen...

The Constellations are the USN's Type 26. Their Type 31 equivalents are being withdrawn from service and will be scrapped or sold off cheap decades before planned. The FREMM before Gibb and Cox have spoilt them for American consumption aren't as good as T26 at ASW. Would you explain your thinking a...

Think the battle experience in Ukraine has shown that the use of the 1980's sub-sonic Tomahawk against a peer enemy would be of very limited effectiveness. Genuine question. The destroyers would absolutely benefit from a modern, smaller and more usable gun. What modern, smaller and more modern gun are you thinking of. As explained in T31 post 12th December the Bofors 57mm has only a fraction of the firepower of the 1946 Vickers 3" Mk.6, with 50 and 70 caliber barr...

Nice pics. The USN with their Burkes have over the years have increased the hull plating thickness, with the Flight IIA the lower hull plating thickness was increased over 3/4 the hull length amidships, though have not seen the rationale and with the Flight III they widened the stern above the water...
