Re: Australian Defence Force

A pretty good guide to have the Australian Army is organised and fights. It is worth comparing this to how the British Army aspires to be. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xH_CyDOHnps I think our planners could learn a few lessons from the Australians, and they do seem to be far more seated in realit...

Re: Integrated Review (previously SDSR 2020)

The CSG21 deployment is really a political decision with little military value in my opinion. Great for the PR people, allowing them to put out multiple releases on how Global Britain can deploy military mass, and matches up with the "Tilt" to the Far East many are talking about, but the a...

Re: Type 45 Destroyer (Daring Class) (RN) [News Only]

So the T-45s radars are considered good enough that they only need the obsolete parts replacing to keep them serviceable. Well that is par for the course with UK defence planning, spending just enough to keep things moving, but pushing actual capability upgrade down the road repeatedly as there are ...

Re: Type 32 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]

Didn't the report into Shipbuilding in the UK mention that competition for competitions sake was a bad idea? Was the fact that competition can force Companies to bid too low to win a contract and then either have to ask for more money during the build of lose money making then financially vulnerable...

If Argentina really wanted the Thunders I am pretty sure China/Pakistan could fir a Chinese seat as an alternative to the MB. But unless Argentina is gifted a fleet of new Jets including a support package, there Air Force is going to remain in quite a sorry state.

Yep as I said full of good intention and headlines but little real substance and an accepted ten plus year break for Peer level warfighting capability on top of the past ten or more years. Reality is still a fair way from where the MoD is at.

Re: Multi Role Vehicle – Protected - MRV(P)

Ok alternatively should we call it Combat Spec, or High Threat Spec then? Rather than using UORs to buy add on kits, shouldn't we hold a quantity of addon sets, made up of the kit needed to make a platform ready for combat. To me their should only be one standard, so either you are at home and next ...

Attack of the "Bean Counters" is obviously still in effect in Main Building. Someone has seen a way to save a small amount and obviously is a fan of buying off the shelf, mainly from the USA. Big opportunity missed, but hopefully it will not affect the "Overwatch" programme's cho...

Re: Defence Capability and Equipment plan

A few things caught my attentions; - 7 years to carry out the necessary trial of the Challenger 3 - Planned OSD of the FV430/Bulldog is 2030!! - The accelerated delivery of the Boxer will still only delivery FOC no sooner than 2030. - No timescale at all for the improved layered GBAD. - The UK has t...

Re: Future Solid Support Ship

With the revised requirements, we could or should be basically getting vessels with almost identical capabilities as Fort Victoria, or at least I hope so. But why the Two years to hold a competition? Surely both consortia already have designs that will cover the new requirements? Or is it the case t...

Re: Airbus A330 Voyager (MRTT) (RAF)

Air Tanker have had a good run but I believe it is time to scrap the current programme and buy a number of the Voyagers outright. We are not getting the most out of the platform and it could be providing so much more to the RAF then it already does. Simple have a large Cargo Door for the upper deck ...

Re: Multi Role Vehicle – Protected - MRV(P)

But because Foxhound was developed to hit the ground running in Afghanistan, is it actually possible to remove any of the kit or is it integral to the design, whereas with the JLTV the extra armour etc. are addons. If this is the case then we could follow the US example and not have every JLTV at TE...

Re: USA Armed Forces

The Super Hornet/Growler combo is the USN's way of hedging its bets regarding the F-35C and its next generation platform. I can see the USN's Carriers operating three Squadrons of Super Hornets and only one Squadron of F-35Cs until the Next Generation platform either manned, unmanned or both arrives...

I really hope so, "Dazzling" the Rivers is probably the best idea the Royal Navy has had in quite a while, they look great and are a real boon for the PR people, and it does have a practical use in littoral areas, just look how the Scandinavians paint their patrol craft. Anyone for bolting...

oh well more highly paid consultants have obviously been busy rebranding and renaming everything so it appears that the MoD is modernising without actually upsetting anyone's plans or pensions, or at least at the top. Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]

Is it more a case of the Navy ended up having two sub classes within the T-23 fleet as a result of the way they were used and kitted out on operations. The majority were still operated as high end ASW vessels whereas the remainder were operated in a more general role and were not fitted nor crewed f...

Re: USA Armed Forces

The impression I get is that the US Military sees the F-22 and F-35, though capable as too expensive to procure and operate and are looking to the next generation to address both of these. Therefore they have instituted accelerated development programmes of the next generation and will both retire t...

All referring to how they want us to see our countries History, but with no historical context and based on todays moral view point. :D

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)

I agree, perhaps the Armoured Infantry clique need to get their heads arounds the fact that they are losing Warrior and are going to have to adapt to using a 8x8 wheeled platform. Once they gat over that shock to the system they may then be ready to emotionally deal with remote weapons larger than a...
