Re: SDSR 2015 / "Defence Cuts" General News & Discussion
Any refuelling would drop the number to 3 anyway That is my thought, why not just write it off and wait for the new ones and save a very complex and expensive process. Obviously increases risk as any delay to the successor program put the continuous deterrent at risk. Perhaps that is deemed to be u...

Re: UK's Future T26 Frigate.
This whole situation is such a balls up, a demonstration of incompetence. We shouldn’t be designing frigates for specific roles; we've already proven this is a bad idea. Frigates move, they can go anywhere and encounter anything so they need to be adaptable to meet threats that will be constantly ch...

Re: Future Light Frigate
This whole concept really doesnt sit well with me. Light firgates are terrible, and are only good for bosoting numbers. To be useful, a ship needs great systems, and endurance. A light frigate may be able to fill one of those criteria, but there is no way both those criteria can be filled on a small...

Twitter tells me the 2 pilots that ejected are with kurdish forces freindly to the turks.
Clearly a mojor development!
Turkish air force clearly have some nuts! If the russians did cross over I would say they are well within their right to defend againt a war loaded aircraft.

Unfortunately no mention of her or diligence . It wasnt in the review, neither was any mention of the RFA, but last I heard they have been pushed in until 2025.SKB wrote:Hmm. No mention of Casualty Receiving Ship (HMS Argus) in the review. Is that going too?

Re: UK's successor submarines
Made this a little while ago when discussing the prospect of an extra astute (which I think is impossible btw)
Any way it shows how the new build schedule will look, minus the fantasy astutes. Hope it makes sense.

Re: Shadow R1
Shadow is a bit of an enigma, and continues to be in the SDSR.
Had to check wiki for this one but it puts the RAF's inventory at 6, the SDSR says we will have 8 until at least 2030.
Perhaps the extras are coming from the soon to be replaced king airs in the training fleet?

Re: UK's Future T26 Frigate.
His commit to at least 5 extra ain't worth poop. Of course it isn't, it will be happening around 2030 mark when Dave and George will be sunning them selves in florida. I don't think we can take it as gospel yet, there's plenty of time for future leadership to change their minds. Can we assume all t...

Section 4.47 mentions the procurement of the three new ships to serve alongside the four new tankers. It doesn't say who will build them hopefully the work will go to a uk yard. Didn't spot that section thanks. Hopefully the UK can compete with Daewoo. The Aircraft carrier alliance could be well su...

Re: Type 99 frigate
How light is light? Could range from being a stripped down T26, the general purpose variant that has always been mooted, or down to the Black Swan concept. Still if it means ordering them in greater numbers than 5 can't be all bad. Do we really need a ship as large as a WWII cruiser going general p...

David Cameron just said the new lighter frigate will allow us to have more than 19 frigates and destroyers. If that is the case I will welcome the horrible light frigates with welcome arms. As long as they are not a replacement for real escorts. Either way this will be happening around the 2030 mar...

Re: Future Solid Support Ship
3 solid support ships confirmed today.
I was only expecting 2, so I am happy on that part. Unfortunalty there is not other mention of the vessels and not a single mention of the RFA in the doccument which is shocking and worrying!
Now we need some specifics.

Re: Type 99 frigate
So from that i understand that they will design a new frigate!!, if this just about saving money, then why not just take a design of the shelve and modify it, else it is just going to cost more than building the 5 type 26's where losing. How about that fancy T26 Design?? Agree that a new design jus...
