I don't really see it as a BDR area at all, but it is something that could be used to shorten turn around times for items especially in areas of the aircraft that suffer from flex/stress.
I wonder what the cost of one these vs a conventionally made panel would be?

Re: Puma Helicopter (RAF)
If these new helicopters are going to be primarily aimed at giving integral mobility to the planned Rapid Response BCT then it would be useful to know the size of formation that is intended to be lifted in one go. This would dictate either or both the number of fully equipped troops each aircraft w...

Were you can hope to improve the software development is by separating the flight control software from the weapons and sensor software, so that when you need to modify things your flight critical software doesn’t need to be touched and re certified at each stage. Re: Airbus A321 (RAF)
If you deem someone from the state important enough to be allowed to fly in such aircraft then no matter how unlikely it’s use i think it should have the defensive systems in place. We hear a lot about non state groups getting access to ever more sophisticated weapons. Could you imagine the ramific...

Re: Airbus A321 (RAF)
Speculation now that these (two of them) will be contractor-operated, not RAF. The last image lacks an RAF roundel and still carries civilian registration. As they are contractor ownership and run. Will they have defensive aids fixed to them as they are most likely carrying high value vips? They co...

Am I reading to much into the fact that the silhouette for the light brigade combat teams on the army’s integrated force 2030 looks like foxhound and bushmaster I would think so, someone at the printing dept probably got tasked to add on some generic outlines. The paper mentions army chinooks, comm...

But ignoring that as our watery eyed champions do, the U.K. f35 fleet is about the same size as our allie Norway’s entire fast jet fleet, bigger than our Dutch, Belgium and Danish allied entire fast fleet. So our deterrent effect is collectively fine. Next time the UK is attacked by one or all of t...

Re: Integrated Review (previously SDSR 2020)
Calculation for QEC availability worked out a 1.4 IIRC. On the same basis, taking 36 x F35s as the ”1” in the “1.4” results in 14 x F35s for the 0.4 (rounded). Therefore to match projected Carrier availability would require 50 x “Front Line Aircraft. On this basis, if someone promulgated the effica...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
I still sometimes think that, assuming the same level of funding was put in to them, we'd have been better off spending the same amount on 4 or 5 x 35,000t class carriers, similar to the Italian one, than 2x65,000t (or whatever they now displace) QE flat tops. Having 3 of those at sea at all times,...

Yeah I get some of it is let's try something new and see what works and doesn't, as you never what you might learn. However I don't see changing things like wings about to be easy or cheap. Stations still have different functions so there wouldn't be much mix and match inside one particular flying u...

Seems to be the standard rumour of the army loosing 10,000 people knocking about. I wonder how true it'll be this time. Personally I doubt it, how do the government sell it? They've been pretty visible with support for cv19 in several roles. Not just that the government have been very keen to show t...

Re: AERALIS - Modular Jet Trainer
I can't see how messing about with changing the wings, intakes etc are worth it for fairly small changes in performance.
I'm not sure there's any real demand for this sort of thing.
