Re: Astute Class Attack Submarine (SSN) (RN)
Would they not be called OZTUTES :D cant really see any more being built at barrow if they are going striaght to the SSBN... If the Qz gov are serious wont they want to build them themselves in Oz in their shiney new yard with lots of help from some of the skilled people ( & the tooling ) from b...

Re: Eurofighter Typhoon (RAF)
I would gift them to Greece in the interest of NATO co-operation & maybe a interest in the Tempest end product in the far future ....or more 2nd hand Tiffies when they get replaced - & the french reaction would be a bonus  but i agree the french would put loads of pressure on the possib...

Re: F-35B Lightning (RAF & RN)
We should not have had to start from Scratch ! We should still have had Sea Harrier FA2 (FAA) in service and operating from QEC until sufficient F35B could be embarked . Keeping the FA2 for longer still as a fallback until F35B numbers had sufficiently increased. Another example of strategic inepti...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
I like the idea of a T26 lite ASW focused lite version for a T32 contender then use them for carrier ASW escort duties, would look good for "global Britain" having the original T26 global combat ship doing what they were designed to do rather than a up armed T31 - it all comes down to mone...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion
I would like to see one Mistral type LHD for bigger missions & a 2 or 3 smaller ( 10k tonnes ) LPD bit like the Albions but a lot smaller for minor insertions that all could team up for major operations whilst keeping both QEC as strike carriers

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
For my 2 cents worth - a 3rd QEC would be overkill but a Mistral or two would be good replacements for the Albion class or as said if a escort carrier was needed a Cavour would be perfect as would be able to re-role as a LPH

Been on the cards for a while but still surprised that Germany didn't totally back a airbus/eu project like a A319 platform....even as a prestige job creation/skills retention initiative

Awsome concepts - very Thunderbird ish !!! 8-) Would love to see something like this in the UK military - but if HMG wouldn't fork out for ( expensive compared to helicopters ) the V22 cant really see any being bought even though the idea of a faster V22 delivering troops to the beach head ( amongst...

REF up arming T31 - For my two cents worth As Donald says up arm the first 3 or may be 4 if possible, 24 sea ceptor and basic sonar, the last 1 or 2, delete CAMM for now But when the T32 budget is availiable divert some funds to the CAMM - less T31 or sell them of when the T32 come on stream if they...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
I actually Don't mind the idea of the T31, a cheaper flag waving patrol frigate for lower end tasks, if it was only 2500t with the same armament / sensors, i think it would be more acceptable to some, but being a large ship it could have a greater weapons fit, If i remember correctly wasn't the RFI ...

Maybe a wildcat would be better suited as a dedicated plane guard.....would also be better to have the Merlin HM2's doing their ASW role ?
Or is it a Merlin an HC4 ? is there not a flight for pilot rescue from behind enemy lines if an aircraft goes down ...or have i got my wires crossed ...
