Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)

Think you have missed the point, we wont buy all 138 because there is no money to buy them anymore plus the £-$ exchange rate has made individual aircraft much more expensive which ever model they are. 48 aircraft might well be the lot and there will only be B models. In the very unlikely event of t...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

I'm amazed they didn't turn off the transponder for the 26knot run I would expect that it would certainly go quiet for any faster then that, if she is capable of exceeding that of course. The French requirement for PA2 was for it to reach 29 knots at least...they weren't planning on making changes ...

I hope someone had the sense to purchase the scaffolding and tentage. The cost to hire all of that, and for the duration it's been on, must have been colossal.
They have a contract with a scaffolding company to provide all the scaffolding needed for the construction and the deck work

Re: river I/I.5 and II patrol vessels
Rolling the 40mm out across the whole of the UK military seems to be a no brainer.
It would be prefect at sea on the Rivers & possibly on others instead of the 25mm guns.

They all use 30mm guns

Okay, with Type 31 pushed in 2030s, I think that we cn confidently say that the UK will get 8 Type 26 and nothing more... To even speak about something that will happen in 20 years ( and we don't know when construction of FIRST Type 26 will start ) is silly. :( Exactly my point its so far to the ri...

Aren't cat/trap operations weather/condition restrained so how in that regard is f35b any different to sharkey's beloved hornets? Sure I remember reading a large percentage of the Falklands war flying couldn't have been done with cats and traps due to appalling visibility and sea states... Vertical...

That was interesting, Fallon says steel cut for T26 in July and the reporter says that T31e will be built after the T26 run finishes so we are looking at post 2030 for this ship.Or put it another way never!

Re: Merlin helicopters

I'd like to see AW (Leo is a stupid name for manufacturer) update the merlin with twin t55's for commonality with chinook - more so as Apache will lose the rtm322. Merlin has 3 engines, to reduce to 2 engines and use different power plants would be a bizzare thing to do and a waste of time and money?
