Re: New Medium Helicopter [NMH] - (RAF & AAC)

As expected indeed..... Quite frankly if the requirement drops to 25, then it's simply not worth setting up UK production, we might as well just crack on and buy off the shelf, or just lease. Setting up a production line for 25 aircraft would make them astronomically expensive, so if the government...

Re: New Medium Helicopter [NMH] - (RAF & AAC)

As we expected, looks like a cut in numbers is very likely. I would guess that they replace the Puma's. If there's any money behind the sofa, maybe the Dauphin's and everything else carries on as is or replaced by leased airframes. https://breakingdefense.com/2023/07/uk-reducing-new-medium-helicopte...

Re: Section Infantry Weapons

I've seen a few interviews with US former SF who have tried it, they pretty much all see it as a return to the "Battle" rifle days and expect it to be relegated to the DMR role sooner rather than later.

I did post a tweet from Drummond, but it appears he has deleted it. According to him the Knights Armaments KS-1 has been selected and will be known as the L400A1.

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)

It would make sense, sharing costs and development of systems would benefit both aircraft. Economies of scale and all that. Plus, more countries would (in theory) be more interested in an F-16/Gripen sized aircraft, than a Tempest sized one.

While the 600+ engines for the B-52's will be assembled in the US, the BR700 was already in service long before that decision.

We do need to support industry to some degree, otherwise they won't be there to support the "bloke in a shed" when he comes up with a world beating idea. If we don't, eventually we'll be getting everything from the Yanks. But, then that might suit some people.

And the new boss is............. Commodore Blackmore flew the last ever sortie of a Harrier from a RN carrier, HMS Ark Royal (R07), in November 2010. At the time, Blackmore was a Flight Commander. So he'll be the one to sneak down in the middle of the night with some Dulux Emulsion and paint "...
