Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate

That sized ship could be equiped with captas2 for asw which is not expensive and provides a reasonable capability

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate

Is there any information out there that gives a cost to a g.p 26 without the noise reduction per the asw version ,its unlikely it hasnt already been costed .

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate

The spreadsheet for the Venator states that it can be expanded for dedicated roles , if those roles undefined are credible and can be designed for later installation to meet requiremments of need without excessive expense ,lots of iffs who knows.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Are there likely to be early trials of the F35B on the carrier before the deployment of them to the carrier , just to confirm what was designed through the simulator and enable flight crews to practice its movement

Re: Type 45 Destroyer (Daring Class) (RN)

A Merlin or any rotary response will only usually be able to respond to a submarine after its detected by the ships sonar ,obviously the time for a rotary response can vary ,if a submarine was aware that the escort had a very quick respons it may be deterred ,a rotary response may be first line but ...

Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)

One of the expected developments of the F35 is in cognitive electronic warfare and for the aircraft to rapidly adapt to radar interception would a longer ranged aircraft be in the better position to take advantage of future developments

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

My point about consideration of splitting the order is that whichever model is chosen a or b should be chosen on whichever best meets operational doctines , certainly also considerations given to whether the model chosen can carry specific armaments for instance the a model bomb bay can fit the nava...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Comparing the Harrier to the F35 is like comparing apples to oranges, the F35 is so much more than a supersonic stovl , there can be the argument that one model may be more efficient to operate or cheaper but without knowing the comparitive running costs of both models and they can be expected to be ...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

I hope people understand Im not trying to argue against the need and value of the f35b to the R.N and would believe that the R.Ns need of the b model comes first ,but after having received sufficient numbers for its needs consideration should be given to the other services as to which model best sui...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Would a large strike role require the escorts to carry the Merlins for the asw and s&r roles and still need 6 on the carrier for aew roles

Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)

There are viewpoints here against the split purchase of f35a and b ,certainly enough of the b model should be ordered to meet the Fleet requirements , but I cant recall any requirement published for other needs that would only be met by the b model , if only operated off an airport then the A model ...

Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)

I thought Id better post this here being the f35b site , there seems to be an argument against the split buy of the F35 certainly enough F35B has to be purchased for the R.N needs , but the F35a with better capabilities should also be considered with its longer range as a stealthy replacement for th...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

There should not be any difficulties operating the f35a ,since the two models were designed to have many of their parts interchangeable ,the a model does have some advantages over the b model, another question might be although the carriers have special heat resistance coatings would airfields with ...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

How many f35b will be required by the R.N for the carriers since even both fully loaded would not fit more than perhaps eighty , the f35a being slightly more capable and cheaper could be justified as ordered to bring the order of planes to completion

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

If the carrier were to need a "full load out" of the f35b a number of aew and asw helicopters would be required if the space on the carrier were taken up by the f35b then more escort vessels with helicopters would be requiredif only for asw , the t26 with its towed sonar could direct its h...

It will be up to R.R to produce the documents stipulating the operating requirements for the destroyer , any document like that will have names on that any enquiry will invite for clarification .

Re: UK's Future T26 Frigate.

Giving a cost figure per 100k would surely only be accurate if every country had identical manufacturing arrangements and productivity outputs per worker also the efficiencies of continual production keep the costs down unlike the stop start whatever, governments yanking on the purse strings cause t...
