Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
Yes but not great either.
Your reasoning is solid but RN has been messing around with these half fixes with suboptimal outcomes for years.
It’s difficult to reach any other conclusion apart from the thinking isn’t entirely joined up.

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
Surely for a platform agnostic solution it would need to be based on the dimensions of a Pacific RHIB which all vessels can handle both RN and other navies. That is the simplest solution but RN have chosen not to do it and therefore all kinds of logistical contortions will be enviable downstream. J...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
All depend on what to be tasked. River OPV can handle ARCIMS MCM USV, 6t weight, with 3t cargo. But, of course, not good at. Just it. T26 can also handle ARCIMS MCM USV as well. I understand its mission bay is actually designed so…….T31? No idea. It is NOT designed to carry ARCIMS system. Of course...

Simply the ability to launch and recover craft large enough to future proof MCM and ASW.

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
T26 shall carry two ARCIMS 11m USV…. Hence the reason for 4x boats houses on the original T31 design. Now that the T31 is to be quite substantially upgraded with Mk41 it’s becoming a higher value target especially if all VLS cells are filled with more than fresh air, what’s the plan for T31? Ignore...

Re: General UK Defence Discussion
No great surprise unfortunately, the writing has been on the wall for several years. I'm not sure if it's started to bottom out yet. The government seem quite comfortable with what's happening. That comfort is being funded by American taxpayers. How long will the US public continue to agree to fund...

Re: General UK Defence Discussion
Amazing how fast this is starting to unravel now. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/02/24/army-risk-becoming-static-land-force-chief-tells-generals/ . Army at risk of becoming ‘static land force’, chief tells generals…..In leaked letter, Gen Sir Patrick Sanders suggests ability to mount overseas...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
Are they just bigger torpedoes with a fancy name? If they are sensors how do we currently deal with underwater sensor systems? I am not disagreeing with any of that, simply that the technology is changing, the threat level is rising and the MoD is dithering with the future of MCM. There is no clear...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
I would say a buy of say 6 to 8 Sea Lancer could be a good thing they could be deployed across the RB1 , RB2 & T-31 classes Having all 5 T-31's capable of deploying SL would be useful Even a RB1 pulling a Sea Lancer in the the North Sea or Baltic would give Russian Sub commanders another thing ...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
I think the solution is somewhere half way, £1.5B could be found… 1. Turn T31 into full GP frigates by adding a (relatively cheap) bow sonar, 8xNSM and 32xMK-41. If half of these are filled with CAMM/ER/MR and half with FC/ASW or Tomahawk, and a containerized VDS is added as needed, they would beco...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
It isn't is a simple and non controversial suggestion. It really is simple and non controversial for most highly developed nations who have patrol vessels with hangers for an embarked helicopter as part of their fleets. That I was inferring with my prior statement that there is no ready OPV+ progra...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
Because from 2028 onwards, RN starts to increase mass (actually just regaining), AND man-power for that is needed. T26-hull1 IOC is Oct 2028. This means her full crew is needed by mid-2026. And T26-hull2 needs her full crew by late-2028 (for late 2029 / early 2030 IOC). T31-hull1 will (or, must be)...

Re: Vanguard Class Nuclear Ballistic Missile Submarine (SSBN) (RN)
MOD quote however we are confident that the anomaly was event specific, and therefore there are no implications for the reliability of the wider Trident missile systems and stockpile If this is a 2nd failure of the system and given current world events, is this really a good enough response? :eh: T...
