Re: New Medium Helicopter [NMH] - (RAF & AAC)
If V-280 is the long term goal, shouldn't we be hearing about tie ups with UK companies by now? More Chinooks? Do we really need any more? V-280 is being manufactured by companies that have uk subsidiaries with all the manufacturing capabilities required to dual source production if that was the de...

Re: Ground Based Air Defence
Do we think countering cheap commercial drones is going to be the preserve of specialist units? I have a feeling it will need to be much more ubiquitous than that. This is where systems like the 30mm Venom could come into their own. Relatively cheap & mountable on pretty much any vehicle It wil...

A XLUUV that can travel huge distances at speed What are you classing as huge distances? In general, submarines can travel huge distances slowly, or short distances fast. Only SSNs can do both at the same time, which is out of scope for XLUUV My point is what can we expect XLUUV’s to be able to ach...

The tail hook addition to a UAV with a large centre line radar pod and pusher prop will be entertaining to see. UAVs of this size and information gathering capability suck in a lot of manpower. Another excellent article and now a regular columnist for the Telegraph. Great to get journalism of this quality in the mainstream media. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/11/10/iran-houthis-red-sea-missiles-israel-hamas-us-navy-carriers/ Particularly interesting to compare with what a RN CSG o...

The competition for the frigate was always about fitting a frigate around the Australian government requirements for CEA radars, SSMs and significant ESSMs. A requirement . Re: New Medium Helicopter [NMH] - (RAF & AAC)
Brunei and cyprus have, for years, had different fleets to the ones in the uk. Not that much unusual in this decision which has nothing to do with chinooks. The central argument of NMH was moving away from small and diverse fleets. Whatever logic might be served by having small fleets of a widely u...

I think people need to get it in there head that the RN are operating only one high readiness task group similar to cougar deployments in the past when it come to intervention operations that requires the capabilities being discussed.
Until that is accepted the rest simply doesn’t add up.

If you simply had 64 cells with with cells split 32, 16 and 16 with aster, camm mr and camm you would be at 128 missile in the ship, missile requirements of more that probably the entire current uk stock of missiles nearly in a single task group. Stock costs huge Another option is to spread the cel...
