Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

shark bait , agree it’s a politicians folly driven by the treasury, but I guess also the behaviour of BAE (who have to be fair pushed to it). The best outcome remains somehow squeezing another one or two T26s out with additional Patrol Sloops to fulfil the “Global Flagpole” role. Next would be a Ut...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Better still if the Absalon hanger was fitted to the Arrowhead 140 allowing 2 Merlins on each vessel. It would greatly increase the potency of the LSG but there appears to be little sign of that happening. Is the best way to upgrade the ASW performance of an Arrowhead 140 to fit the Absalon hanger?...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)

Has anyone here heard anything of this or is it all just bullshit ? Weapons grade bullshit. BAE want to be the lead on this. It has little to offer the US at present as they're balls deep on F-35, B-21 with the US aviation industry looking towards F/A-XX and PCA. One of the key requirements for it ...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)

Iv just been watching some YouTube videos on tempest out of boredom and when reading through the comments I found one that really stuck out to me. It stated that the UK has made a deal with the USA in regards to tempest partnership similar to the F35 but this time with the USA taking a 60% lead in t...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

I think it's always going to cause people to get disappointed if you compare to the past numbers wise. People in the 60s probably thought the military was too small and compared it to ww2 sized military. If we look forward the numbers aren't too bad really. Exclude the Americans and we are comparab...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

I never said it’ll happen I said it’s what is really needed to do what HMG want else like I said either the carriers or RAF fleets will be just token forces or even worse both half arsed. I don’t see people saying it’s tokenism when the US rocks up with 4 f22 in Estonia or 8 in Korea or when 8 f35s...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Really looking at it that you have 60% odd of any aircraft as front line then to allow the carriers and RAF to operate properly then the full 138 need to be in service at once. This would allow the FAA to have 3 squadrons of 12 ( 24 and 12 between the carriers ) and 4 squadrons of 12 for the RAF th...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Unless they are modified the Chinooks, ACC Wildcats and Apaches are only suitable for specific one off, short term deployments nothing more except if the balloon goes up in a big way, and therefore should not be counted as true assets for Carrier Aviation. To do so will serious damage the platforms...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

IMO what’s needed to make the most of the carriers and give the over all fleet the aircraft it needs is something like this - 12 x V-22 for COD and AAR 24 x Merlin ( 12 ASW and 12 Jungly ) 30 x V-247 ( 10 AEW, 10 EW and 10 Attack ) 12 x Chinook marines upgrade Wildcat attack upgrade FAA access to at...

Re: Future Littoral Strike Ships

Ideally I would like the LSS to have two CB-90s and two SF optimised Merlin HC4s, with the optional gear such as the EO sensor fitted as standard. Give it the capacity to handle twice that number if needed and to utilise cargo transfer floats/platforms (forgot the name!). There would be two davits ...

Have you any idea about the cost difference between the two?
You also have to take in to account the cost of setting up a new logistics and training line as well as the lose in tax to the treasury that merlin would give

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion

So who would operate these? As they are operating off maritime platforms then the FAA could lay claim to them as a way to supplement the Merlin HC4 fleet. I know that in principle all transport helicopters are gathered under JHC, but historically those at see are flown by the FAA. The NH-90 MTT wou...

Re: Future Littoral Strike Ships

Ok maybe not he T-26. Is there a cost comparison out there? The other issue is that the CB-90 is also a combat vessel with numerous hardpoints to mount weapons on where the Watercats are really fast landing craft. I was assuming the M-12 was a cheaper alternative to the CB-90. I haven’t been able t...

So far, only the Osprey has folding wings and props  Not any more the V-247 has aswell now there are videos on YouTube showing it. That depends because they are also looking at other options such as the V-247 vigilance drone which will come in at least 3 version ( AEW, EW and Attack ) this is where I’d be investing in if I was the RN

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion

Just out of interest have anyone got accurate costings for the various Enforcer designs, because if the LHD is more expensive than the LPD then the argument is moot. If not it could be in contention. Is there any point looking at the costing of the current enforcer designs as we are talking 10+ yea...

Can we get some of these for the LSS. Maybe even the T-26? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pf58AkKgmmk Would they be any better than the CB90 ? If we took things in stages, trial then hopefully upgrade the Bays first. Then using the lessons learned build two new possibly more capable platforms that to replace the Albions whilst being more efficient to run. Finally build at a later date build two or three more of the same platform but more ...

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]

To me I don’t understand why the RN would want to introduce an new CMS, no matter what way you cut it a new CMS would require extra training and no matter how larger the customer base it would require a new maintance line with all the cost that this creates. I can’t see why the RN wouldn’t say in th...

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]

Its clear that Team 31 are strongly pushing Tacticos for Arrowhead 140 not just because Thales want to sell more of their combat system, but they also think Tacticos is better than the CMS being offered by the two rival bids and could give them the winning edge. What happens is Arrowhead 140 is cho...
