Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Any efficiency savings won't be felt by HMG/MoD, they'll benefit BAE. Said savings won't be available to fund new builds for the RN etc Understand your point, but disagree. It will reduce the amount of cost blow up, and reduce the amount of “ additional money” required to be payed by HMG :D So it w...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Not sure what you mean. The "frigate factory hall" is a hall. Manpower to weld, install, and integrate everything is unchanged. The hall will make their life easy, and reduce the risk of schedule delay. Good. But it does not necessarily improve the production speed, I think? In Scottish w...

Using which engine I wonder? The Rolls / Kale engine hasn't started development yet. I don't see how Turkey avoids an interim fighter purchase, whether it is Typhoon or something else. I don't see any other alternative to Typhoon but I think Eurofighter (and respective governments) need to get on w...

Re: Type 83 Destroyer (RN) [News Only]

….discount the Arsenal ship - too many imponderables. Why not use the T31s as the Arsenal ships? So when they are on carrier escort duty they add 32 silos queued by the T83. Makes sense. Even adding just CAMM to the Goalkeeper T31s would vastly increase the defensive capabilities of the CSG. If qua...

Arguing for arguments sake, the pair of you. Geo was on his mission to savagely cut defense spending in pursuit of his financially illiterate idea that a balanced budget should be achieved at all costs. He refused to pay for T26GP and commissioned an ex-Babcock's guy to write a shipbuilding "s...

Surely by 2025 the target must 24x UK F35s? That would be quite a sight if it could be done.

What is the plan for CSG2024?

Generally positive news, but "we intend to" is not the same as "we are going to" and nowhere does it indicate that this will be at the build stage. If this is part of some distant future upgrade post build then its liable to be cancelled or postponed and never come about

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)

I think the numbers will be way more than than the 120-180 people here suggest. My imho my view is ~250 units. The lesson from the Ukraine war is the need to have combat mass, and with the UK being involved in the European theatre, and now a toe in the "Indo-Pacific" theater - the UK will...
