Mod has already stated that FADS will be distributed system in small groups of missiles For me, 6+ medium hulls with initially 36-72 varying air defence missiles, all in common VLS with there own cells, with space for double the amount, and provisions for quad-packing. Also on OPV vs frigate arguem...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
Labour at present seems to indicate there defence strategy will concentrate more on natos eastern front and a bigger army. That doesn’t require a lot of ships. There will be many forces pulling on the budget regardless off its size. Government strategy will dictate where the budget is spent to supp...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
Is that confirmed? If Westminster goes, the ASW skills and equipment should be transferred to one of the upgraded GP variants. Keeping 8 sub hunting frigates going should be essential, and if it means cannibalising the others then so be it! It's a sad state when 8 frigates sounds ambitious... https...

The lesson from Ukraine of course is you establish a presence to show you’re interested in the outcome before conflict breaks out to ensure it doesn’t, provided your being asked to help of course.

What radical change? Well one area and it is not all within the MoDs control. There is huge tax issues right around the 50k-60k and 100k-120k pay areas if people have kids. Effective tax rates particularly at the lower band will be astronomical they’ll jump from an effective tax rate of about 40% t...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
Independently, reduction in ASW frigates’ number must be compensated until all T26 comes in. My proposal is, as already said, early purchase of Merlin “replacements”. A few MQ9BASW on CVF, ASW kits for ARCIMS usvs, are the candidates. I think ordering 3-6 more new Merlin ASW will be another option....

They’ve blown there budget Not really, it’s just underfunded. A lot of the projects were never actually funded in the first place so to add it all together and say there is a black hole in the budget is bonkers…they were never included in the budget. Much of it was/is aspirational. IMO it shows fou...

1: RN is getting to renew their escort fleet. Soon, with new 5 T31 and 8 T26 coming, and T45 PIP ending, I understand the "manned" escort number will rise from 10 to 14, which is great . It is great but it won’t be quick and more T23’s will become beyond economical repair before the offic...

The material state of the escort fleet is not good. That has been the case for over 10 years now, glacial inaction has been the default position and we’ve bluffed it out with opvs. Its as clear as day here. https://twitter.com/TBrit90/status/1731440548274180569 Between, TAPS, Kipion, the JEF task f...

HMS Lancaster is there too, so that is two escorts either in or near the region. There is a significant number of international escorts in various groups in this region too. Is that enough or is that just what is available. It’s defence down to a budget again. This constant relying on allies is bec...

Isn't Diamond already on her way? In the Baltic there is the danger of a far greater economic damage via pipelines and undersea cables than a few rockets shot at the odd freighter\tanker. @SW1, I saw you replied to my post but it’s gone? It is couldn’t be bothered going round this you on this any longer.
