Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Oman maybe stable or appear stable now but it is not sovereign, attitudes and stances may not align on all topics. There is only 3 ways stuff is getting into Yemen either from the sea, through Saudi or through Oman someone is helping. There has been many uprisings changes of attitudes over the years...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Despite the fact that we are actually contributing two ships, with Lancaster having left the Persian Gulf and steaming southwards (as of last night). Moving Lancaster to the Red Sea is a quick fix but now RN has no escort in the gulf. Another gap. Having Diamond and Duncan either side of Suez is gr...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Are we relying on allies again to police the rules based order? What's the problem? The strait is used by dozens of nations. The whole NATO escorts may join. There are literally "dozens of" escorts there. Why would NATO get involved in the Red Sea? It has in the recent past. https://mc.na...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

I think the gun systems on type 31 mean it doesn’t need to use missiles for every air target it can save missiles for the more difficult ones The T31 will have a single gun with a range of @9nm - it’s a narrow window here and primarily for self defence. I’m pretty sure it has 57mm and 40mm guns tha...

...with potential. Yes a lot more potential then any River Class Batch 1, 1.5, 2 or 3. Perhaps superficially. If a RB3 embarked 6x TEU each containing 12x CAMM that’s 72x CAMM with the Wildcat hanger and flight deck still operational. Backed up by the 57/40mm’s. If the T31 only has 12x CAMM fitted ...

Thats great but what’s next?
You provide an escort to them rather than leave them to it?

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

The RN has maintained an escort in the gulf area for as long as I can remember. It has added a second periodically. So it will always contribute with allies to ensure free movement of goods at sea in that area. It will not be doing this on its own. If it has to maintain more than one escort longer ...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Yes so stop wasting it on opvs we don’t need. We aren’t buying a patrol frigate we are buying a general purpose warship For the reasons I’ve just stated this does not make sense to me. Plus a T45 can act as a GP frigate, a T23 or T26 likewise. It’s a lazy label - every ship needs to have real value...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

So no need for more OPVs then rather more escorts with missiles, 3P ammunition and helicopters. Only if the budget is unlimited. Every OPV enables a patrol frigate to become a true GP platform. The resource is finite. Yes so stop wasting it on opvs we don’t need. We aren’t buying a patrol frigate w...

There is still away to go for closing the Suez Canal. Doing that will see much more pressure being applied by the likes of Egypt and other Middle Eastern countries as they will be losing out financially. Since when did the UK and the US wait for others to solve the issues caused by destabilising en...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

So you think the answer of what is going on then is to bomb Iran? When did I suggest that? You start escorting merchant ships that’s not tolerating the situation that’s the military contribution to how it’s dealt with. For how long? Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

There is NO such thing as a limited strike on Iran. You have to appreciate what would come next. I guarantee you with the first explosion putin will be on TV saying see I told you all along. The Chinese would likely be forced to become more overt in their assistance to both areas. The republicans i...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

There is a less than zero chance of any strikes on Iran, we will have learned nothing from the past 30 years if there is. The last 30 years told us not to put boots on the ground somewhere and then pretend we can build nations in our image, especially with no exit strategy. Whereas, a limited strik...

I would add this is likely what we see more off elsewhere. Venezuela has already received Iranian drones and missile craft. Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

I think this is the exact theater T31 is designed for. Perfect match, If you are talking about how everyone wants it to be equipped and assuming the threat doesn’t increase then yes probably ok as a second best to a T45. As it was designed and in the RFP (potentially just 12 CAMM) I think not - it ...
