Re: Section infantry weapons
In recent conflicts, many of those who have carried and used either the L85a2 or M16 varients did not see, the person or persons they were shooting at. Well documented. There is also a reason the M417 failed the UOR for DMR. Quite. And it was the same for WW1 and WW2. By the end of WW2 a lot of the...

Re: Section infantry weapons
the UOR for a DMR - was anything chosen? Is this how the Maximis came along, on the side of the Minimis? the increased use of the GPMG in the light role - has there been a "patrol" MG ever since the Swedes scrapped their universal use of 6.5? The UOR for the DMR is widely reported along w...

Whats your source for the engine rebuild? Or was it an inspection to see what damage if any occured?shark bait wrote:Going to guess the length and surface preparation varied massively between the A400m and C-17, with the latter pretty much needing an engine rebuild after operating on a dirt strip.

I suppose if we want a reliable Infantry rifle etc. we could buy AKs in 5.56 and 7.63 NATO. Then again we could buy those rather nice Czech rifles they have just adopted. We have a very reliable Infantry - general purpose assault rifle. We have a poorly designed, poorly manufactured, over complex, ...

yep, and it cant come soon enough, being well behind the french and Americans now. Upgrades in the early 20's to extend life out to 2035. It's a big project too, because its been left so long it a £billion+ programme, which still doesn't bring us up to state of the art, the USN still have a greater...

The video posted called for a 350ft deck remaining so I guess there is a little play for further forward roll but it might get a but twitchy in the cockpit with the deck going by. It's this that I was wondering about. If there is a suspicion that the aircraft has an issue and no land divert is avai...

Again, I have never suggested loosing landing craft, just shifting to a more helicopter focused set up. Aircraft bring much greater speed and flexibility. I would suggest that if aircraft can't be used, neither can landing craft, and there is more work to do before hand. The last time we used Helic...

I've experience of the L85a2 on operations and it was flawless, no stoppages. I've seen an A2 on range have 15 stoppages in 30 rounds in the hands of an instructor. I've had no problems with it or the A1 but they are still a pile of poorly designed , poorly made junk. Suspect they will make it to 2...

I've only had experience on the A1 and the single shot cadet rifle both of which were a bucket of shit. I pulled the cocking handle right off the frame on the single shot and broke the dust cover on the A1. I loved the SUSAT though. I've experience of the L85a2 on operations and it was flawless, no...

Yes, considering that she is half finished, I too wonder why signing that 1,4 billions contract now, and not in 2012? I think there was an initial £300m contract for long-lead items and initial work on the reactor and pressure compartments. This is the contract for the "completion". A mil...
