Re: Boeing C-17 Globemaster III (RAF)
Strategic insertion over 7000km is a good way to get your airborne units killed!! If you have a fleet of 24 aircraft then we can talk battalion deep insertion/interdiction ops. We don't. Simply put, you need the means to support operations at depth or have organic support. Anything else is suicide. ...

It doesn't hurt to look. Given how bad the LeClerc is, I hope the Germans take the lead.

The BVA/RCVS joint working committee has assurance that all live animal exports excepting horses and breeding animals will stop by 2022. Also, the new planned divergence allows all animal products not meeting farm assured status (Red Tractor) be labelled as non compliant (previously banned by EU law...

Fire both and then we'll chat. If you look on YouTube you can see numerous examples of what I'm saying. The sport rifles you describe all have longer barrels, different gas piston sets, and more compliant spring systems than the standard M4. The spring force on the breech causes significant wobble w...

Re: Section infantry weapons
We are not talking about sports rifles (or at least I'm not). Any competition rifle will be better set up than an AR. That said, once you have jumped out of a plane, had a rough landing, dumped a mag going to cover, and rammed home a second with half a sand pit accompanying it ,I would imagine the g...

Re: Section infantry weapons
it is certainly one of the most accurate 5.56mm Maybe as a service rifle, but I should think that most of the the AR-15s in civilian competitions will knock it for six. Never in a month of Sundays . The new free floating barrel and Acog sights give it a much better grouping. Also, the bullpup desig...

That won't work . Skillsets are completely different for combined armour vs mech infantry in light role. The French seem to make it work Do they? In my experience of Conops, they rarely work well at all. You are asking a battle group to leave home the one instrument of tactical entry they have and ...

Re: Type 31 & Type 32 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]
Had a pre-Christmas catch up with an old class mate last night. He let slip that T31 was always intended to be a lightly armed flexible multi-mission ship in support of distributed operations. This was agreed with the RN several years ago to limit the impact of the manning crisis (now resolving), an...

The 416 has gone down like a whore in a convent. Complaints include: 'it ain't an M4', tolerances too tight for dusty conditions, poor stability for the 203 mount, and excessive barrel heating with the suppressor. Never fired it so have no skin in the game but the same team also designed the G36 whi...

Re: Section infantry weapons
The M4 is useless at ranges past 200m. Period. The Diameco C5/6/7 series are a bit better and have the option of fitting a longer barrel and the changeable barrel/ breach for 7.62x51. The advantage of lightness, commonality, and easier to clean are in the M4's favour but having used both and the C5,...

They did with Milan in the 90's. I wouldn't want to be the mortar crew, the back blast would barbeque them. Besides, you want your mortar systems 2-3 km behind FLOT to best use the propellant/angle variance benefits of time on target barrage.

Tow in man portable mode was a disaster. The 82nd refused to accept it and kept Dragon, prioritising mortars. The system is very effective when vehicle mounted, and when the Sheridan/Shileagh combo left service, they increased the number of HMVV fitted systems for air insertion. This was very effect...

It is interesting that everyone is applauding the excellent mobility of the 'new' tank hull form including it bossing the cross country element when the same commentators maligned the CR2 which it actually is !!!
